Opinions on Anime?

Hello Newgrounds, what is your opinion on anime?

anime - noun - Japanese movie and television animation

Do you watch much, or not at all? Do you love it, or hate it?
Any reasons for your particular choices? I'm asking you to explain because it seems like every anime thread has people hating on it for no particular reason, so what is your reason, raise your voice.

Also, don't tell me to go to C&C, I know there is an Anime club, but people are there because they like anime. I'm asking the population of the General Board for their opinions.
Also, if you feel like answering all of my questions, why do you think people love/hate anime as much as they do? Posts your replies if you wish.

I myself enjoy a bit of anime from time to time, but it's not all I watch. It's damn interesting but I'm not overly obsessed with it.

Personally, I enjoy anime digital art stills more than animations and TV shows. Pokemon (early seasons) was really the only anime I got into.

I don't watch anime all that much, but I do respect it as a style because of the ability to make camera angels that are virtually impossible and to use special effects that would otherwise cost millions of dollars to make. Very useful story-making material.

To me it depnds on the plot line, if it's interesting enough I will pay attention. Ex. Full metal alchemist, I love that show.

Ah, anime. I first watched it on Saturday Anime on the Syfy Channel, first anime was ariea: part two, then it was robot carnival, tenchi muyo the movie, virus, and some demon city movie. Then they took them off, then I started to watch Adult Swim animes like Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebob, FLCL, Trigun, and others. Then when I moved to Job Corps with no internet or cable, I had to rely on Rightstuf to get my anime which included Excel Saga,Sister Princess, AMSA, Serial Experiment Lain, Ruroni Kenshin, and some others I'm sure. But then I moved to Seattle, and it all came to a close, I miss those days when I wasn't annoyed by how.. predictable everything was, it's all about icchi now.

What I think of it now is kinda boarderline, like a video game. It could be art, or action, or touching, or just stupidly perverted. And I can understand why people like the look because it's cute, don't believe me; what has a big head, big eyes, small nose, and a small mouth? Teddy Bear and other stuffed animals. Now what also has a big head, big eyes, small nose, and a small mouth that speaks japanese? All in all, it's good for Japan to have a niche in the media market.

Anime has the potential to be good and there are lots of great animes out there but a lot of anime is just shitty...and I don't like Japanese humor, oversexualization and the cheesy and/or overemotional plot lines and scenes that much

I agree with you there, for every good anime, theres bound to be a lot of shitty ones. The same goes for general television as well.
Still, I see what you mean with the last few examples. The humor is eccentric at times and the animation in general can be over the top. I however, like those two things. Everyone has their own opinion and I can see why people would dislike it.

Anime is a good genre to get into, there are many kinds and differ in each one. I have really gotten into Durarara though as it kind of combines fantasy with 4chan, or more like the struggles moot faced with trying to control 4chan. So yeah, Anime may not be for everyone, but it is a good genre to get into.

Depends on the anime itself, I've seen some good and bad ones. Plot and art the basic things I look for in animes, hell even Xmen was turned into an anime and it wasn't all bad.

Depends on the Anime. Considering it is animated, I tend to like more futuristic based Anime. Tri-gun and Cowboy Bebop are two the come to mind.

Anime is made solely for the entertainment of Japanese children and anyone else who watches it is basically a pedophile. I don't see why people think the Japanese have made any significant contribution to global culture at all, actually. Their one prominent export (anime) was just Disney Cartoons with extra violent/sexual elements thrown in, such positively pervasive stuff. They don't bother to lip sync their dialogue animation because they are lazy and their language isn't complex enough for it to make a big difference either way. Not all anime is aimed at children (some have violence, nudity and language) and is generally aimed at an older audience, and not all anime has child/child-looking protagonists.

Congratulations, you just quoted some pretty bad examples of animation (in my opinion). Granted, there is bad anime from time to time (Also, MLP isn't anime), but there is bad American animation from time to time. Doesn't mean they're all shit.
