I've decided I would like to take my future in a more artistic path. AKA I'm looking into going to school for art. Interested in Animation, and Illustration. Recently went to KCAI (Kansas City Art Institute) and took a tour of the campus. I was impressed by the campus, but not by the price tag.
My main question is can animation be learned on your own, on a professional level? And what are the advantages/disadvantages of going to school vs. self learned?
After I have done the work and have a good portfolio will a degree mean anything?
What do employers look for?
Obviously you'll have help from a professor, but can't I get that help from online tutorials, and web communities such as this?
Motivation's not really a problem, but I am seriously thinking of taking off work, or moving to part time in order to work on art. So I need to consider all my options.
