My little brother, age 10, is going through some big speech by his "worker" that he's diffrent and will be diffrent for the rest of his life. I'm sitting across the room listening to this crap. He's no diffrent from anyone else. I slammed my hand on my desk and left the room. The woman is just embarrasing him and he just plain out hates her. Discuss.

The thread title alone leads me to believe you're bullshitting that entire paragraph.
On the offhand chance that you're telling the truth, the social worker is full of shit. Asbergers is something your brother will struggle with, but it's not like his life is forever ruined or anything.
lol south park reference, kick ass

Most likely, but it does depend on the severity of the ASPERGERS. Some people with Aspergers struggle more than others.
This is nothing new. Aspergers is one of the most overdiagnosed conditions out there right now, right alongside ADD/ADHD. Every parent is eager to take their children to a psychiatrist, because they need to believe every little imperfection isn't their kid's fault. No, they must have a psychological disorder, that's why they do the things they do, right? I'm by no means denying the existence of these conditions, but psychiatrists are quick to blame then for the child's behavior. We live in a world where everybody knows someone who seems perfectly normal, but is on medication, or has been diagnosed with a mental disorder.

You have got to be fucking kidding me, I have only met one child who was diagnosed with it. And he did have aspergers, it wasn't just an 'over diagnosed' case. The only other person I know with it, is myself. As a child I was diagnosed with a very light case.
Prior to the South Park episode, I hardly even knew many people who knew what it was. And even after, the creators of the episode didn't seem to know much about the condition. So you want to say it's over diagnosed? I just can't see it.

I get that, but I can see it being the new "hot" condition that 100% of kids apparently have.

Maybe where you live it isn't common, but around here I've met tons of totally normal people who have been diagnosed with it. The funny thing is, with many of these cases, including myself, people have been told that they've grown out of it. If you legitimately have a mental disorder, you don't just "grow out of it", it stays with you for life. Any time a psychiatrist hears about a bit of social awkwardness, they're quick to point the finger at Asperger's syndrome. I understand that you may not have seen it happen, but it's wrongly diagnosed more often than you think.

Where I live? I've lived in 3 states, and 6 different towns. I was diagnosed with a light case as a child, being placed in 'special' classes that I had all the way up until middle school. Afterwards I was upset, to think I had to take these special classes just because I acted differently? Only until about a year or two ago I took a moment to reflect and look back on it all, watching documentaries on the condition, reading more into it, and so on.
Doing so allowed me to realize, yeah I still have it today. And I am a little different than an 'average' person, but these courses allowed me to learn around it. That's what they call "growing out of it" as you said ... It's not that the condition is gone, it's that the child has learned their way around the condition and can now substitute what is not there by recollection and memorization.

Asperger's syndrome isn't like say, ADD, dyslexia, mental retardation, or other conditions that impair your ability to learn. You were also diagnosed with a "light" case of Asperger's, which is already considered to be similar to "mild autism". I can relate, as I was placed in "special classes" up until high school, too, although admittedly I was doing poorly, and they blamed it on Asperger's. There was no real problem with me, aside from being a lazy fuck, and as a result I was put on various SSRIs and antipsychotics, and also prescription amphetamines since they assumed I also had ADD. The medication really fucked with my head, and I became prone to mood swings, and depression, basically causing a lot of the problems that they associated with Asperger's. Eventually I stopped being a lazy fuck, and ditched the medication, and I returned to being a normal, functional, human being. I didn't "learn to live with it", the problem was never there in the first place. In short, yeah, I am saying you were probably placed in special classes simply for being different.

Go ahead, slap him in the face and scream "DO YOU NOT REALIZE THAT YOU'RE PISSING ME OFF? Shut your mouth!" That should do it. And if he keeps saying he's retarded then slap him 2 times as hard(don't make him cry or you'll get in trouble) and slam the door in his face.
