What do you think about school? Im not really asking about the quality of your education, but rather your view of school? Do you value it, do you think that its "gay" or do you have a neutral stance? Please state your opinion, and your age if possible. I am curious to hear what your opinion is.

Basically I think you should get out of school in year ten and go to college, because high school education is shit because the admins don't give a shit about your education.
They measure the quality of their schools by how much gadgets it has in it and how much they blew on that new 'multi-media centre', which is essentially a new library with computers, rather than the actual grades of the students they are outputting.

Hmm.. pretty much all schiooling is good, but it's just gone about in crappy ways.
I think the best schooling in the world occurs in grade school. And then, in some sort of twisted exponential curve, the quiality of the learning expierence goes down with each passing grade.
Sucks, but it's the truth. Then, when you enjoy the fun of college, you'll notice that whereever you go, they don;t give a shit about you, and unless you phone in regular bomb threats to each and every office your paperwork will be hopelessly lost, and you'll get the added fun of "Wait a minute.. you need XXX more classes for this degree.. and I don't see them here."
Oh yeah, school is a riot.

If I were to walk around my school asking that, the general answer would of course be "it sucks". I think school should be treasured not only for the social value but the fact that it's so damn easy. I figure once I get out, I'll be longing for something to do besides just going to work and i guess bars. School can be like a party depending on the strictness of the teacher but sometimes a day can drag on because homework is a pain in the ass as are tests and pop quizes. I'd find it much harder to make social plans if I wasn't in school. Summer vacation is different because we plan shit in school. Fuck school...

School is important because school = education, education = everything.
Don't be a dipshit and drop out. You'll regret it when you're working minimum wage at McDonald's at the age of 30.

Ah ha ha ha ha!! You think colleges give a hoot about how much you learn? Trust me, all they want is your money. That's IT! If you don't get good grades in high school, the teachers hound you to do better. If you don't get good grades in college you become a liability to attracting new and *rich* students, so they just tell you that you can't come back anymore. It's happened to more firends than I can count.

I don't like it. While it may be important in your success in life to some people, I believe we stress the importance of school too much.
The educational requirements for each coming generation are becoming more and more extensive, and we will reach a stopping point where the children will not be able to learn anymore. This is evidenced by parent's and politician's complaints of school averages being too low. It should be expected, considering that most people forget 75% of what they learn in high-school, and must re-learn it in college.
Besides, I've seen people that graduated high-school only, yet have a comfortable income and a happy life. Intelligence does not equal happiness. These years are the best years of your life, you should be enjoying them. I'm 15, BTW.
You should have posted this in politics, BWS. General's not such a good place for this.

School hmmm.... It's pretty good from kindergarden through middle school (grade 8).. ooohh how I miss nap time.... Anyways... Sometimes in can seem gay, but you really do look back at your school and you'll be thankful that you usually didn't sleep through the class... I'm pretty neutral myself, school in general is alright.. but teachers.. well don't get me started *grabs bat*

i think School Sucks sure it can help you get a good job but why waste like 16 years of your life sitting on your ass just being told what you are supposed to know like why not just have a wire stuck in the back of your head and like all the knowledge you need down loaded into your brain in fact i think schools should be burned down to make room for down loading clinics and that is my thought on schools

i dont really see a need for school....education is the basis of almost all of our problems...if noone had an education there would be mostly ignorance....and there would be far less global issues if most people were completly devoid of common knowledge

I think school is probably the most valuable thing we have as people.
No education = no progress.
One way or another you better learn yourself something, somehow,...otherwise you'll be pumpin gas or flippin burgers for a large portion of your lifetime. Get some special knowledge that you can hopefully flip into a career and roll with it.

Well, I find it to be all a big popularity contest, and I couldn't care less if I'm popular or not, more people hate popular people then the people who like them, but that's just my opinion. And everyone will end up forgetting about everyone when they go to college.
Apologies aren't what I look for. Redemption is what I want!

Your reasoning is flawed. If by your theory, the people that do not get all the schooling they should (whether by income problems or learning disabilities) but are kind and good people are worth less than those that have a Master's Degree but are complete a-holes.
Don't be a dipshit and drop out. You'll regret it when you're working minimum wage at McDonald's at the age of 30.
Really? A friend of mine dropped out, he's a Marine earning 50k a year. You know that with just a high-school education, you can become an Air-traffic controller, who can earn up to 80k a year.

Yeah, but a lot of school is a waste of time. We spend 12 grades learning about generic stuff, and not until college do we actually learn about the stuff we care about.
Plus, I teach myself more than school has taught me.

I'm 18 and just finished my first year of college.
I've got a real love/hate relationship with school. On one hand I definatly acknowledge its merits. I've learned a lot about the world and have had some teachers that have really shaped me as a person. I'm thankful for all the wisdom and practical knowledge that school has given me. I've also met a ton of friends through school and it's always been one of the coolest places to meet up and just hang out, in or out of classes.
Despite all this I think aspects of school are complete shit. First of all I've always dispised the conformity that it forces on kids/young adults. The entire system is set up to take that magic we're all born with and pound it out of us. Transforming a young kid with a wild imagination who sees the world as being filled with opportunities to learn and experience new things into a cold, calculating, business savvy individual who's ready to join the "real world."
Yeah so what I'm trying to say is that school can do as much harm as it does good.

You know whats rather ironic? You say that school sucks and your typing is atrocious. Now, ill guess that you do poor in school and therefore your opinion is based on this. Furthermore, ill assume that you not exactly a brilliant person outside of the classroom either. Are you easily angered when you cannot comprehend something? Also, when you become defensive, do you insist that youre right because youve "said so?" Just curious.

agreed. but then again, politics isn't a good place for anything. So good call BWS.
And wraith is right on some aspects, I mean you DO forget most of what you learn. I think school isn't well structured. People waste too much time on memorizing things from books that they could just have on a CD, and not enough time doing logic exercises and debates. I think debates and essays on actual things, not litterature.... that force you to do a bit of research could benefit the school system.
And also, show people in high school how life works. Show them how to balance a budget, how to write checks, how bank accounts works, the stock market etc. I have a class on that in High School, and we had waaaaay too many things to see in that year, and we didn't get to practice anything at all, and just ended up forgetting.
And more stuff like cooking and knowing how to shop for a house and how to not get doublecrossed when buying things, and how to be a smart custumer. There outha be a class of " what's happening in the world right now".
But then, what classes to take out? Could probably take some english classes out, and some science classes as well. And depending on the school, there always seems to be some really dumb classes that don't help anyone. ( bowling class hahaha)
I'm 78 and a half

Look at all the stupid people there are in the world that actually have educations. Now, do you think life for anyone would be any better if these people couldn't read, write, or do basic arithmetic? Everyone's got to go through the generic shit.
Plus, I teach myself more than school has taught me.
For me, that kinda alternates each year depending on what courses I'm in. I can definately say I've taught myself more programming and computer-related shit than college has, which I take as good and bad. Good, I'm teaching myself because I'm interested in it. Bad, this school I'm at ain't challenging / interesting enough.

I think school is actually a load of crap. And I'm not saying that out of hate or angst.
Its original intent was to keep kids under control, and teach them to respect authority. It was to keep kids from overthrowing the government by shooting propaganda into their heads. School = fascism in this manner.
But in reality, the most useful thing I've learned in school is English. I'm really glad I have good English skills right now, though I'm not sure how much of that should be acredited to the school.
My future is in programming. That's pretty obvious for me at this point. In fact, I'm quite a computer expert. It's rather ironic that after taking English, History, Science, and other classes for 11 years, I know more about computers than I know about those subjects, and I've never taken a class over anything computer related (excluding some 6th grade required generic computer class - waste of time).
My point is that school can't tell you what you're good at, and it can't build a career for you, these are choices you have to make by yourself.

Yeah, I agree with you here, generics are good. That's about through maybe 5th grade. Plus, if people need it, they can always take more classes over generic stuff.
For me, that kinda alternates each year depending on what courses I'm in. I can definately say I've taught myself more programming and computer-related shit than college has, which I take as good and bad.
Same here. I'm a sophomore in high school who spends all his time at the computer instead of doing homework, most of the time programming or making something that I didn't learn in school. School doesn't interest me; programming does. I've taught myself basic ASP/ADO/SQL over the past month, and now I'm pretty good at it. I would love to do this for a career.
Can you understand now how I feel that everything else I do until I can get my career in programming is pretty pointless?

School is important, but not the only way to learn. Travelling is a great way to learn about the world and yourself.
Unfortunately, no matter how much you know, much of the modern business world revolves around who you know. I'm half way through my way to earning a degree, but I'm still a jobless nobody.

I think education is the most important thing that one can attain in life. The more you know, the better. That's what I think at least. Also, if you have a passion for something, then you should follow it and learn as much as you can about it. I'm in school and I think its the best thing for me. I've just got to figure out what I'm going to do when I finish.

O.o
I mean you have to get a job to know people that will get you a better job after you finish your degree.

Heres my view on school: I like it.
Why i like it? Becuase its important and will ultimately end up making me brighter and more intelligent, helps with the growing up process, helps me with the sense of responsiblity (same as with work) and also is fun with pep rallys, clubs, sports and socializing with people there.

I think school is a place to learn social skillz and to get along with people of other ethnicities. I mean now we can just learn the same stuff in school on the internet. I go tot school just to be with my friends. FUCK the work. Oh and school is fucking stupid and needs to be destroyed.
