Wow, that sucks. Surprised there's no COD yet though. And even how sick it may seem, I'm sure gwar will move forward considering how many guitarists they've had in the past.

GWAR blows.
But meh... RIP i suppose.
It always sucks when a good guitarist dies.
I'm assuming, at least, that he was good.
I don't enjoy the music, so meh. Also, I'm praying he jumps out of a weird caterpillar thing and yells "I'm being born". And I also want a cake, decisions....
I'll consider any genre to be music, metal is more like acting as fucked-up and satanical as possible.
So bottom line, IDC.

I'm sure you're both trolling, but either way ... Metal is just a label for them. If you actually stopped and listened, it's pretty much punk. Wikipedia is trying to call them crossover, metal, and punk... Crossover is pretty much still punk, under the name metal. And yeah, they dress up for the whole bit but it's all in fun and jest.
But whatever, you like it or you don't. Enjoy listening to your Justin Bieber and Brittney Spears.
oh how silly of me, clearly I am just not as understanding of you and your music. After-all by saying metal sucks it's a gross/biased assumption. Yet you were spot on by stating I listen to two "popular" artists who obviously have a large following in 17 year old boys, ofcourse it doesn't matter their target audience is younger girls, no you so rightfully and clearly took the time to 'analyze' me and my taste of music.
I will now go listen to two artists who I clearly do listen to, and it's not like you made a NON-biased assumption of "in/popular" music 'these' days, simply because the two afore-mentioned artists have had more media coverage, no sir. You keep on going and be the moderately/righteous/un-biased man you are.

Sometimes I wonder why Thrash is even considered metal, most of it, beyond some of the more popular bands, doesn't have many metal traits. Take out most of the palm mutes and you probably wouldn't be able to distinguish it from hardcore.
I don't like GWAR that much as a band, but holy hell are they fun live. The way they perform on stage and have an entire Lore is really awesome.
if die too if i was in gwar...

awh i feel bad no disrespect to Cory D:
I love their live shows, go every time they come into town, however, I don't ever listen to them otherwise. Good times.
How'd the guitarist die?

But the palm mutes are still there.
It's considered metal because it's basically just heavy metal sped up.
That's almost as bad as thinking all metal is screamo.

How can you think about Call Of Duty at a time like this?!

True, true.

Although thrash is faster than most traditional heavy metal, I wouldn't say speed is the only factor. the D-beat, yelled/screamed vocals, and frequent use of of chromaticism (all of which are traits share with Hardcore).
That's almost as bad as thinking all metal is screamo.
You better not be implying Hardcore is bad and not related to Thrash. Cause if you are, I'm going to get up and pace around for a few minutes.
Metal, Punk, or whatever the fuck you want to call them, GWAR sucks. I've listened to them, and they suck. Don't call me biased or any shit, because I like metal bands such as Rammstein, White Zombie, and Metallica, and I love punk bands such as the Adicts, the Dead Kennedys, the Sex Pistols, the Damned, the Misfits, and too many other of my favorite bands to name.
So before you call my taste in music bad, take a look at your own. The instrumental music of GWAR is actually really good, but the singing is the worst shit that I've ever heard. It's even worse than screamo, it's that fucking bad.
I've never liked gwars music, but I always wanted to see one of their shows.
oh well RIP
I was supposed to see them on the 21s last month in Worcester, MA but stayed home because I didn't have any money. Fuck.
GWAR had some alright songs in my opinion. Rest in piece Flattus Maximus.

80's Metallica aside, whom everyone and their mothers like, those bands aren't metal.

...so, do you like any punk that isn't super popular and well known?

THE MUSIC IS GOOD, BUT THE VOCALS OBVIOUSLY MAKE OR BREAK A BAND.
lol wut?

GWAR will still remain awesome. It must've either been a stroke or drug problems, I'm not sure. RIP Smoot.
Hondas,Hookers,HKS motorsports and Hard yiffing, it's all good | I love AE86's!! |formerly towellyfan | Herro Roo makes the best yiff known to civilization
Good, last time they performed here they were playing so loud I could here them from 2 blocks away at my residence. I went over there to complain and some bum offered me free tickets to that noise. More like free tickets and some earmuffs. I'll never forget that

You uncultured swine.
Not like it's van halen or anything, but still sucks. At least Gwar are better than slipknot. It's much more of a loss than Paul Grey dying. I always saw them as kind of like the weird al of metal music. Funny, and actually pretty good at times.

It's a combination of the two. Thrash abandons a lot of the blues influence in classic metal, borrows heavily from hardcore punk rhythmically, but the songs are typically longer, and have more complex guitar soloing originally found in British rock groups of the 1960s and 70s.
Also, thrash metal has more riffing than hardcore punk, which is mainly based around fast paced power chord progressions, with little extra instrumentation added in. Exceptions to this would be alternative hardcore punk groups like nomeansno, and crust punk bands like Nausea and Amebix.
I don't like GWAR that much as a band, but holy hell are they fun live. The way they perform on stage and have an entire Lore is really awesome.
Have never seen them live, but I plan to.
