I saw the first Sonic commercial when I was 7.

I also watched the first and second cartoon series.

I fall in that Gen Y category, have to agree. but I don't see many fans flaunt it as they're as usual too busy bitching about how they can't play modern sonic games.

If you made a "fan character" your not a fan, your obsessed with Sonic, if you liked Sonic Riders/Shadow the Hedgehog/Sonic 06,(or recite Sonic Heroes as your favorite games) your obsessed with Sonic.

I used to be part of this "super awesome"(fail) group when they RP'd in Yahoo Chat rooms, when that shut down they all moved to Deviant Art, look what happened to that website. Everywhere they go stuff just turns to shit. Sonic fans never have any good ideas. They mostly just rip off ideas and make them worse. But because the fan base is so big they support each others bad characters

Nothing wrong with being obsessed with a franchise. (As long as you don't whore it out for the sake of pissing people off.) Nothing wrong with liking a game majority of others claim to hate. Nothing wrong with making fan characters and sharing them with like minded people, I'm sure many VG fan base has them.

Also deviant art is fine they're as much original artwork posted there as is here. Except NG is stricter and strives for quality not quantity.

your the token Sonic fan I was expecting that has to defend sonic in the most random of moments. For every sonic thread that questions its fan base, there must be at least 1 that ill rise. To make this short, Mario fan characters? super rare. Halo fan characters? Multiplayer. Legend of Zelda fan characters? really? God of War... (based on fan characters compared to Sonic)

You fail to notice what extents people inject their Sonic fan characters into the franchise. It really seems you have no idea whats around you. I'm sorry I can't be fooled by you. Did you not read what I wrote, I was a part of this, I know how it works, for 10 years the people I knew didn't go anywhere. 10 years later, they are still hiding in their shell pretending to be someone else, Someone their not. Well I like riders (The first one only) and heroes. But that was because of nostalgia. So am I obsessed?

Well I meant the series as a whole, and I consider Heroes passable, just the kids who say they still love it as the best sonic game ever.

Okay so I'm not aloud to voice my opinion if it's to the aid of Sonic gotchya. Also who cares Like I said if they want to make fanart then let them do it. So what if you see it more from our fansbase (if your still a fan) then any other do you wanna know why? Because the art style is EASY and very kid friendly.
