Anyone got any plans for it?

I guess it's not a familiar night for people out of the UK. Basically, some guy (no pun intended) plotted to blow some stuff up hundreds of years ago with the intention of taking out important people, and we celebrate his demise by burning effegies' of him on fires and setting off fireworks.

I'm off to a party for it and I bought a bunch of rockets to take with me. First time I've ever bought fireworks that come with safety goggles and gloves. Kaboom!

Breast cancer awareness month. Subject that's important to me, as my mother has recently undergone surgery and treatment for it.

October was breast cancer awareness month and they're too lazy to get new sigs.

I've been to one of those celebrations and it is so much fun! No such Guy Fawkes here :(.

Most people don't know that Guy wasn't actually the one behind the whole terrorist plot, though. But, he's the only one people know about. Sort of like Columbus not being the first to discover the New World and did it by accident. People like to ignore some things about history.

I plan on having a bonfire with a few friends. Nothing even relatively big and eventful, just a little fun.

Err, correction - it was October. But I like boobies all the same and think it's an important issue, so I'll hang onto that sig for a while.

I couldn't be bothered with going into a detailed analysis of the man, that's why I linked to an article about him.

I love this holiday. I knew about this event since I'm a huge history nerd and I find it amazing that you Brits celebrate it the way you do. I hope you have an amazing time at your party and I really wish I could attend something like that.

P.S. Can you name one of the rockets after me?

Hell yeah, I'm heading to Lewes straight after the footy. The town goes fucking mental on bonfire night everyone dresses up and the sky is a light for hours on end. Parades in the street everyone has a great time. There are few wankers that throw fire crackers about at people in the parade from windows but hey.

Sounds like a good holiday to me. Everyone loves blowing crap up, myself included. Holidays are a great excuse for setting off fireworks.

I've heard a few already, I'm not far from the rugby club where they normally hold a "community" thing so it should be quite noisy on Saturday (or is it Friday... I forget which day they hold it on).

... the fifth. Pubs and clubs and whatever throw their own parties closest to the day that it falls on around a weekend. But it falls on a Saturday this year, so there's no need to do that, unless pubs / clubs / yadda decide to put their shows on a different night to others to avoid competition.

We actually do celebrate it, my in-laws are from England, and we have a bonfire. We're not partying until Saturday night though good sir.

Explain more, please. I'm somewhat interested by this ritual of sorts.

Here in America, stupid people who don't know anything use the 5th of November and Guy Fawkes as symbols of defiance, and think they're better than government by watching V for Vendetta and donning a Guy Fawkes mask. Most think November 5th is a day to celebrate rebellion. Most are stupid fuckers with no knowledge of history and don't realize Guy Fawkes was a total failure.

Honestly, when I see a bunch of people in Guy Fawkes mask, I think about a bunch of failed terrorists that will never amount to anything, despite the movie reference in it.
