Perhaps there are just more inexperienced animators nowadays, but so many of the threads here are "help me" threads and "how do I animate" threads. Also, most the replies these posts get are either very tentative or naive.
It's really nice seeing what is perhaps a new generation of animators starting to emerge, but animation is knowledge that needs to be passed down.
I hope someone with a good background in animation sees this and becomes motivated to mentor this forum.
actually, there was someone with LOTS of expertise in the subject.
Mick Harrison
He helped everyone with their problems, sometimes going way out of his way using diagrams and shizz. Everyone was a huge dick to them though.
here is an simulation of a conversation between someone and mick harrison
OP: help guiz
MH: you should do this and that
OP: its supposed to be like that, as in shitty.
MH: well that's not very good, here's a detailed explanation of how to do it correctly
OP: OH MY GOD YU FUCKING BUTTHERT TROLLL FUCKK YOU I AM SO PRO AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA A *shits pants*
if you want expertise, add someone who is experienced on MSN and chat with them all day, all night, aw yeah baby!
You mean like me? Sorry, but I'm here to stay. My project isn't just a passing fancy. You can hold me to that.

Part of this may be due to the splitting of the old Flash forum into the current Flash and Animation Forums. I personally know very little actionscript but I always liked having coding guys nearby. Sometimes I would get ideas from actionscript threads (weather effects, filters, etc) to use for my animation.
Looking at the Flash forum now, the discussion there is embarassingly more advanced. Every post that requests help is very specific and thought out.

Probably because in a way, programming is a lot harder to do than simple animations. If someone is trying to do actionscript, they probably have experience in what they're doing, so they know what they need help with. Alternately, anyone with a copy of Flash or some form of drawing software can post about their issues here, which comprises the majority of this thread, just because this is probably where most people decide that animation is too hard for them.
I stop by this forum from time to time, but I may also check out the Flash forums too, because they do sound intriguing.

imo, its really hard to compare animation and programming. Its like comparing doing math homework and doing a drawing.
potentially programming can take less time or less effort. Like if you solve the problem, or reuse an old engine. While animation is a grinding process the more time you put into it, the more you get out.
but sometimes you try to write out a huge complex algorithm, and you get a bit disorganized, lost, stuck, etc.
but I guess you're still right. In a way, it is harder. In another, its not.
maybe the reason they are separated is because those two are too different. Honestly though, you might as well just get rid of the flash forum and move it to the programming forum. The development of flash in general is non existent in the flash forum (EX: how do I do this effect in flash, etc). Its just As2/As3 questions.
just my little shpeal
