I like doing some PC gaming, but my computer has a shitty vid card. I always meet all system requirements expect the video card. But this thread is NOT asking for video card advice.
What I want to know is...
What are some good older PC games? Something you're sure will run on any old computer. So far the only games I have are Terraria, Minecraft, Deus Ex, and The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. I used to also have GTA: San Andreas, which was my favorite PS2 game, then became my favorite PC game. But my sister decided to uninstall it and now it won't reinstall.
Anyway yeah, older PC games. Suggest.

Counter Strike 1.6 is a no brainer.

My biggest recommendations would be Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee & Abe's Exoddus, (if you only get one game, make it one of those) Fallout 1 & 2, Little Big Adventure, Planescape: Torment... and Final Fantasy VII I guess, if you haven't played it before.

It's not a joke. This game was fun and still is now. It has an excellent art style, good voice acting, fun little interactive touches that add to the game's environment, decent puzzles, and nostalgia.

Today I was reminded about Transport Tycoon which is a pretty classic PC game suitable for MS DOS. I loved it when I was a kid. Basically you have to set up your own transport company and build railroad tracks, roads, airports and harbors to have trains, vans, planes and ships transport all kinds of stuff from one place another. It's probably way more fun than it sounds.
Rollercoaster Tycoon was a similar game which was also great fun. In this game you had to build your own theme park.

I was going to suggest Putt-Putt but it appears your too cool for such a childish game revolving around a purple car and his amazing adventure through space and time.
anyways id suggest Diablo, its a bit date by now but its can still be lots of fun.

I've been wanting to play that again badly. And Sim Tower. I loved Sim Tower.
I also miss Age of Empires. Sometimes you can find it in the bargain games but it doesn't run on Vista. :-(

Older games that I've played and still enjoy:
Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines (rest of the series is meant to be good too)
Fallout I & II
Gangsters: Organised Crime (essentially a mafia boss simulation game. Really fun once you learn it)
Half Life 2
Judge Dredd: Dredd Vs. Death (possibly not as good as I remember it being. Used to think it was awesome)
Mafia (really, really good game)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (never finished this, but it absorbed me for hours)
The Elder Scrolls I & II (might not enjoy them, but I'd love to play through them at some point)
Zeus - Master of Olympus (city building game, pretty fun)

Some of these have already been mentioned but they deserved to be mentioned again. You'll need DosBox to get a couple of these running.
Fallout 1 and 2 - Probably my favourite RPG games of all time. The most flexible character generator I've encountered in any RPG games, which can lead to radically different characters and playstyles (including stuff like low INT characters not being able to form a sentence). And even though the character generation is so flexible, the games manage to cater to most characters by always offering multiple ways to solve quests, and the possibility to complete the games without killing a thing (F1 does this more successfully than 2).
Arcanum - Something of a spiritual successor to the Fallout games. Arcanum offers the same sort of flexibility, but stuff like combat and balancing are worse this time around. Still, a great setting (typical fantasy world, but in the 1800s instead of the ususal middle ages) and story make up for it.
Thief 1 and 2 - Best stealth games ever. Excellent level design and a wonderful atmosphere and story. Not much more to say, really, but let me just tell you that these are some of the most well crafted games I've ever played. Everything about them just feels right.
System Shock 1 and 2 - Wonderful RPG/FPS hybrids. Both games have an incredible, dread-filled atmosphere, and the stories, while technically not the best in the world, are expertly presented (the series pretty much came up with the concept of finding and listening to audio logs to tell the story), and the series has one of the best characters in video game history: SHODAN.
Planescape: Torment - I haven't actually played that much of this one, but not mentioning it would be kind of silly, since it's considered by many to be the best RPG of all time. As far as I can tell, the gameplay is weaker than in, say, Fallout, but the writing, setting and voice-acting are terrific. I actually need to play more of this one myself.
Arx Fatalis - A great and incredibly underrated dungeon crawler. I think you'll get a kick out of this one if you enjoy the combat and dungeon-crawling of the Elder Scrolls games. Incredibly immersive game. A bit rough around the edges, though. It's possible to accidentaly sequence-break the main quest and whatnot. If you save often, you should be fine, though.
The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall - Honestly, I don't know why I like this one as much as I do. I guess I just really love the grand scope of the game, even though it is all more or less randomly generated. The city of Daggerfall is larger than all of the cities in Oblivion put together, the randomly generated dungeons are huge and complex (you willget lost) etc. There's something about Daggerfall that just clicks for me. It's incredible fun to ride around town or try to find your way through a labyrinthine dungeon.
Deus Ex and Morrowind are fantastic as well, but OP is ahead me on those.

Well, it depends on your taste. But assuming you like every decent video game known to mankind,
-Half-Life (all of it's mods to, especially Point of View, Azure Sheep, and Sweet Life)
-Half-Life 2 (If your computer can run it, also get the mod Get A Life)
-Quake
-Fallouts 1 & 2 (and Tactics if you can nab it.)
-Dooms 1 & 2 (assuming you haven't played those.)
And chances are if you can run HL2 you can run WoW, but you could instead use that money to buy a new video card...

Point of View and Azure Sheep sucked hard, i think they were the most overrated Half life mods, yeah Sweet half-life was awesome but the best Half-life mod should be Life's End.

Whoa, thanks everyone! I'm thinking about trying out Fallout 1 and Planescape: Torment, they look like decent old school RPGs. Also, Mafia 1, I know nothing about but seeing how I loved Mafia 2 on PS3 and some of you are saying the first one is better I should definitely try it out. I'm downloading the two Oddworld games as I type, I remember my brother playing those way back in the day when I was just a wee lad. I've also heard great things about the Half-Life series so I suppose those could be worth checking out as well.
So many options now, thanks everyone, this is why I love this site.

OMG I love Humongous Entertainment, that used to be my hero. I still have a bunch of old CD's with those games. But in terms of good old games for you, Starcraft [the first one] was great, and people still play the expansion pack.
Speaking of expansion packs, what happened to those? all we get today is updates. And WoW CD's
Crazy man, all the frackin' time.

Damnit, I always wanted to play Deus Ex but all I got is Invisible War and even that got lost and probably thrown out with time. However, if you're looking for kickass old school games (especially one's not recommended yet) I'd send you towards Dungeon Keeper 1&2. It's kinda like Zoo Tycoon, except you're the owner of a dungeon with monsters and imps and such, and you have to train/house/employ your monsters to eventually send them to fight the lands heroes or rival dungeon keepers.
Another great one is Black And White. (the original, the second one kinda sucked in comparison) A game where you're a god, and you have to gain power by earning belief from the people of the land using miracles, answering prayers, or letting your creature go out and shit on their houses (or rival creatures) http://images.cheezburger.com/completest ore/2009/12/26/129063645573420315.jpg

I downloaded Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus, Mafia, Planescape Torment, and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 for good measure. I also downloaded Fallout 1, but for some odd reason it crashed when I tried to play it and I simply don't give enough of a shit to figure out why.
These are all really good games, thanks again, everyone, for the suggestions. This should be enough to hold me until the release of Skyrim.

Or Half Life 1 and all it's mods, seriously, theres allot of mods for this game, and still being made, the same goes for Half Life 2
It's impossible to use the bathroom in Denton's house, as not even his toilet paper takes shit from anyone.
