"You posted to a public forum. There was no deception - you knew that from the start. Topic threads should not be broken, for the sake of others who participated in them."

A quote taken from another online forum where a user asked to have their posts removed. This isn't directed at any one person, as we have many users constantly asking us to remove their posts, or post history, as they have since grown up and are ashamed of what they posted in the past.

When you post on a public forum it becomes a part of the public record. Do not post something that may come back to haunt you later in life. If you wish to remain anonymous then don't post things that reveal your true identity.

We shouldn't have to turn our forums into Swiss cheese because users decide they want their posts removed later in life. We have made exceptions over the years, but we are getting to the point where we may have to deny these requests.

So think before you post.

That's why you should just stay as anonymous as possible and then post whatever offensive bullshit you like. It's much easier than self-censorship.

Yeah, I agree. I can be a bit immature at times, but not usually in Forums.

If only the majority of the userbase here weren't too stupid and immature to appreciate this fact... :(

Pretty much. As for this thread overall, I have bookmarked it for future reference.

I wouldn't call them flat out stupid, mostly just immature, then again most of the people on the forums are teenagers

does it take that much effort to remove someone entire post history?

surely if they're worried about it harming their chances of getting a job or their social status, it would be worth it.

I've worried before about if I'd ever feel the need to have my post removed, then I remember that I'll never amount to anything or have anyone I'd need to hide my posts from so I continue to post personal and sometimes worrying stuff.

I don't think the amount of effort it takes to remove posts is at issue here - its the fact that, if many people request post deletions, all of our past threads will become disjointed and have gaps in them, with users responding to posts that are no longer there.

it's not like i'm ignoring that, but if something someone said on an internet forum when they were adolescent and silly has the risk of impacting their life in a bad way come later on, surely you guys wouldn't turn around and say no because of some slightly emptier threads.

It's not admin's duties to clean up other peoples mistakes. If someone's fucked up then that's their problem.
And i hardly think any posts on Newgrounds risk your chance of getting a job, how would an employer even find your account unless you told them?

no- but it's their job to look after the user base. i'm not applying this to babysitting them in real life or that they should be forced to backtrack during the day for the sake of some douchebag on their site, but if it's an easy problem to fix then why not?

And i hardly think any posts on Newgrounds risk your chance of getting a job, how would an employer even find your account unless you told them?

e.g if you want to get into something like politics. only for the media to find out you supported the nazi regime and liked scat porn.

i'm not saying it's guaranteed to happen, not impossible though.

Yeah, it isn't necessarily as easy as it sounds however. On forums you make friends, if you stick around long enough you make a reputation for yourself. People are going to become interested in you, or you will gain interest in others. You'll begin talking more and more, whether it be through PM, or even on the public forum. Some things may just happen where you bring up an inside joke between a 'friend' from the website, or they may spill your full name and what school you go to, without any bad intentions of course.

Those things happen. It isn't easy to stay anonymous on here after so many years, since 2005 I have been posting. I think a point in it comes where you will be known for your real name, etc. It shouldn't happen and doesn't on every forum. There's something different about Newgrounds I guess, any other forum I've been on is totally anonymous for the most part. But you gain relationships through these forums somehow, and one thing leads to another sort of thing.

I regret a lot of my past posts, but I doubt I will lose a job because of it, or get declined a job because of it. If an employer sees my previous posts from years back and sees my posts now. The only notable thing is growing in maturity and seeing things different in a more mature perspective.

Though older posts of mine may seem bad, if you can look past them and see the posts that I make now, the old ones don't matter.

Unfortunately, not many employers or schools will do that though - And it isn't a secret that some schools and employers will end up finding your Newgrounds posts if you have ever had your full name posted on the forums.

Yeah, whatever.

YESSSSS!!!!!!

God do I hate it when people cry about their post history; It's there for good. Deal with it.

Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did.

I always think before I hit the post reply button, sometimes more and sometimes less, but I don't post stuff that would get me in trouble with the law or that would decrease my job chances. I am very carful with personal information and don't reveal such things on the forums.

If someone has a long history with us and later needs a few posts removed that have a high chance of screwing them over they may make a request to have the individual posts removed. I can't promise we will always have the time to honor these requests however.

Even if I wanted a job and for whatever reason I told my employer I go to newgrounds and what my name here was I really don't think they would drudge through near 13,000 posts hoping to find some dirt on me with which to decide to not hire me.

But yeah, good to know possibility for exceptions exist.

I'd never, ever ask for my posts to get deleted. Mostly for nostalgic reasons, but also because I can look back at past mistakes and victories, and what better way to know the exact date than by just looking at the topic?

That's what I love about newgrounds.

Even if a person gets deleted, his posts still stay, only his username joins the <deleted> club.

Wade, you couldn't have said it better. A little forethought goes a long way. Nobody has the right to bitch about what you've posted -- you forfeited any ability to take it back the moment you hist that little orange button.
Taking a few seconds to look over what you've typed before hitting 'post it!' can mean the difference from sounding like a sage and cramming your foot so far in your mouth you fart toes.

Now just take a moment to visualize that.

I always try to remember this, and it's saved me from making a fool of myself plenty of times. Granted, it's not always foolproof, and I tend to make a clown of myself when I get fired up, but oh well.

Of course, if you're just here for the lulz, by all means, go wild.
