They make almost all of their WoW money from subscriptions. It's not that big a deal.
Even still though it seems like a desperate attempt to draw newbies in
People still take Blizzard seriously? After SC2 flopped I really don't care about anything they do.

Blizzard was good before becoming ActivisionBlizzard.

What? How did StarCraft II flop in any way?

Flopping like donkey dick
The campaign of SC2 was good, but wasn't worth playing again and again. As for multiplayer, I just never really grew too attached to it like I did with the original Starcraft. Meanwhile, I did play World of Warcraft for a few years, but I quit when things just never really changed and seemed to get boring after a while.
I will agree that they were much better off on their own.

i'm glad you're back lol
You should keep in mind it was most likely the shop trying to get rid of some old stock, I don't think anyone bought the damn things considering it was the same as going onto the trial website.
(Back from the dead!)
Thanks to TheWolfe for letting me steal his sig.
It's nothing new, those things were there 3 years ago too, and then i got it free.
I wouldn't say it's desperate, they're just trying to get new players, they always tried this.

Yeah but up to level 20 thats pretty easy isnt it?
Well. That's how business goes in a gaming industry
There are things I do and there are things I want to do. Overall, I just want to live my life and end it the way I want.
My guess is Blizzard is realizing WoW is slowly on its way out. The graphics are pretty dated, most of what they're throwing in there is nothing new, and people are running out of things to do in there. Still, on the other hand, free to level 20 is just a new way of promoting their free trial. Even from the beginning, Blizzard was handing out free seven day trial cards like there was no tomorrow, and it was easy to get to level 20 in those seven days anyway.
Truthfully, Blizzard really needs an all new franchise besides Warcraft, Starcraft, and Diablo. While those three have always been highly respected, I think something completely new would be really appreciated.

I would love to see them make Shattered Nations.
Shattered Nations was a post-apocalyptic strategy game originally assigned to the makers of Starcraft before being canceled in order to make Starcraft. Other than this not a whole lot is known about it other than a trailer and some previews that can be found on the original Warcraft II cd's
