Suicide...

Why? I went through my day this morning fine. Then at lunch that a friend of mines girlfrined broke up with him. I wa fine with this until I learned that as soon as she broke up with him she was going out with someone else. This just made me flip. Now the kids thinking about suicide today. Everyones feeling sad and not talking, but I'm sitting there silently thinking about this. The kid just experienced something called life. I didn't tell anybody but I think if you can't handle life, maybe you should just kill yourself. I felt bad for the kid until I learned that. If he really does kill himself were prbably better off without him. I sound like an asshole right now...but I'm right about the suicide part.

When I was in sixth grade, I had a crush on this girl and we hung out all year. At the end of the year she walked up to me and screamed in my face, "I HATE YOU!" for no reason. I didn't bat an eyelash. I cried that night, but did I contemplate suicide? NO! I think the rason I got so upset when he thought about killing himself of because of a mistake I made last year.

No...the kid experienced a cruel thing. "Life", or whatever the fuck you call it, doesn't consist of people breaking up with you and then immediately going out with other people afterwards. Otherwise, that kind of thing would be so much more common. It's not.

That doesn't make sense. It'd be more rational to help people who "can't handle life" find ways to cope with life's hardships, instead of merely telling them to go kill themselves because they weren't prepared to deal with an unforeseen unfortunate event, such as this kind of break up that you speak of.

You aren't right about anything. Also, you claim that this person is a friend of yours, yet you speculate that you may be better off without him alive because he is extremely heartbroken and thinks suicide is the answer.

What kind of friend are you? Wouldn't you naturally be more inclined to help him deal with his unfortunate circumstances as opposed to stating that you don't care much if he dies by his own hand?

It's not so much an opinion. Maybe you haven't felt the feeling of death. Maybe you don't know compassion. But still I could deduce the array of logical fallacy in saying what you are saying.

"Value for life = life mattering". Great assumption.

But don't for the sake of the people around you, say things like that. At least for the people who know what it feels like to want to die. Or the people who have felt the cataclysm of it. The people who find it hard to know or accept what is left.

"Value for life = life mattering" is what I'm trying to get across. I don't want him to kill himself and I hope he gets better. He has his whole life ahead of him adn he chooses to throw it away. If he really dosn't value his life enough for him to end it, maybe he should. Again, I don't want him to die and I hope he gets better, but he needs to realize he is wrong.

Nobody wants to die. They just can't find anything to hold on too. And he can't realize anything, in a sense, he isn't wrong. You're wrong for trying to impose your beliefs onto him. Instead of helping him. He needs to find new ones, even if those are instilled and born out of the last.

I know a few people who've committed suicide, and I've never understood why. Although they all had really legitimate reasons (they weren't killing themselves over something as petty a break-up, dear god, slap some sense into your friend) why would you ever choose to kill yourself?

If you've given up on life, if it holds no meaning for yourself, and your current life situation just sucks, why don't you use it? Go travelling, hitch-hiking, even, and go anywhere. See the world. Change the world. Go to a third-world country, grab yourself a gun and start a revolution. Or use the rest of your money and educate the natives. Who cares which? You were willing to kill yourself! Far as you're concerned, you're a dead man anyway!

Have sex with anyone. Rob a bank. Do as many drugs as humanly possible. Paint a masterpiece. Be a regular bohemian. Sky-diving, bungee-jumping, mountain-climbing. Do what you want, and do what you don't want but you think will be fun anyway.

Rest their souls, the friends who killed themselves were pretty weak-willed. Never understood it then, and this would probably be the most pathetic justification for suicide that I've ever heard. Well, that and money. I advise that you take your friend, knee him in his stupid fucking gut, and tell him to take a hike.
