Taco Bell's Steve Jobs Fb Status

So yesterday immediately after the passing away of Steve Jobs at his Palo Alto home, Taco Bell posted a Facebook status as a way of showing thank you to Steve's time here on Earth and his contributions, and a way of sending their condolences to Steve's family, friends, colleagues, and fans of Apple.

People posted in response to it like: "what do tacos have to do with the death of steve jobs" / "What does this have to do with Taco Bell?" / "why the fuck is taco bell posting this?" / " i love how people are "paying there respects" on a comment the taco bell corp. put on facebook haha this makes me laugh.. taco bell dosent give a shit about jobs, the relevance is not there, or at least i dont see it." / "I fail to see the relevance of Taco Bell posting about Jobs." / " why is a taco chain commenting about a computer-guy's death? its so unrelated its funny..." / " i didnt know taco bell cared so much..." / "Why is Taco Bell posting that his legacy lives on.. New iBeef Smartwraps?" / and my ultimate favorite: "if i say rip steve jobs at a drive thru will i get a free taco?"

Of course many people thought it made no sense that a Tex-Mex chain corporation would post on their Facebook fanpage about the passing away of a CEO of a computer and electronics company, but I don't see what's wrong with it. I'm sure Taco Bell do really have a soft spot in their hearts for Steve Jobs, and really did care. These Facebookers just think it's absurd and irrelevant, but what do you think?

As for the topic, it's a stupid question. Did Taco Bell pay their respects out of kindness, or were they trying to appeal to the apple fanbase and possibly win over some consumers of their low-quality tacos in the process?

It's another example of people using modern technology to make it look like they care about whatever particular subject is currently in vogue, without having to make any actual effort. They serve terrible, borderline inedible food. For years I thought all Mexican food was like Taco Bell, and I hated the thought of Mexican food because of that. Then I lived in Texas for a while, and realized that I had been deceived by the low-bidder crap that Taco Bell pumps out en masse.

Actually Steve Jobs was heavily involved with the Taco Bell corporation in the mid to late 1980's. Apple sold several thousand computers to several fast food chains, one of them being Taco Bell, and basically revolutionized the way the restaurant organized their menu.
