I was told by Blizzard that World of Warcraft is now F2P until level 20. It's called a Starter Account.

It's just the same as it has always been.

No it's not. It's the same as it has been for the last few months. The new accounts have limited functionality and never run out but you can't get higher than level 20. Basically it's to get you into the game and dedicate some time into it so you will be more compelled to buy the full game.

Buy the game?

Most AAA MMORPGs run on subscriptions, so in order to go beyond level 20 you're going to have to pay $15 for an entire month of play time.

Right, you have to buy the base game along with the subscription fee.

Well I'm pretty sure you would need to buy the game first and then get your subscription running but I am not too sure on the latest WoW stuff since I only played for a month or two last year.

Plus the $10-15 for the base game WoW too. Then when you hit the expansions MOAR MONEH.

I suggest doing it. Anyone should give it a try, really. The game is fun and the world is fucking massive. You can't really go wrong with some play time in game for free.

Yea, I farm Anal Penguins. Do something about it.

There was a sale a while ago, picked up a copy of the base game for £4.

Also, WoW and Burning Crusade Expansion are essentially folded into each other. No need to buy Burning Crusade.

Last few months is an understatement, it's been like that for atleast 2/3 years.

The new trial version just has a little bit more functionality and flexibility to it. I think it was a good move, because the trial version prior was too short to really get a good grasp on the game for new players.

I'll save my money for guild wars 2, thanks. the free trial is nice and all but loot-based gameplay just ain't my thing.

I've never played WoW but always wanted to try it, so I went to download this. I thought all was ready to play then it turned out I had to download over 10gb of stuff. Yup. Fuck it, not doing that.
