3.80 / 5.00 4,200 ViewsI had a little over a $100 and bought a PS2 GTA3, GTA SA, GTA VC, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Gran Turismo. Does any know what games are the best for the PS2? Also was it wise for me to buy a PS2 instead of a PS3 or XBOX 360?

I think your trolling but I'll just go with it. It really depends on what you like that justifies what is best for the PS2; personally I like turn-based RPGs so I have Nocturne, Metal Saga, Persona 3 & 4, Mana kimea, Alter Iris, and Wisardry. But I also have some other games like Shellshock Nam 67, Killer 7, Monster Hunter, Bards Tale, Sonic Mega Collection and others. But generally it just depends on what you like, I'm sure you can find anything you want on the system, it has a really good library. As for the PS3 and 360, I'd like to say it's primarly a tug-of-war between the two companies, and while I think Sony is a tad better than Microsoft, if your wanting to find something unique, your rather better off grabbing a Wii.
Thanks for the input but I have a Wii and I personally hate it except for some games that I have for it.
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Baldur's gate: Dark alliance are both solid titles.
If you don't mind not having online than a ps2 if fine. Get Shadows of Colossus.
[PSN/Steam- Airbourne238]
Buy the entire Sly Cooper series. Best PS2 games ever. Those and Shadow of the Colossus. Basically the two reasons I still keep my PS2 hooked up to the TV.
sly cooper,Final Fantasy X(good gameplay, meh stoyline)ico, shadow of the collossuss ,and orphan scion of sorcery(very early rpg for ps2)
-Resident Evil 4*
-Devil May Cry 1 & 3
-Metal Gear Solid 3*
-Jak & Daxter (just the first one)
-Shadow of the Colossus & ICO*
-Final Fantasy X*
-Silent Hill 2 & 3*
-Maximo
-Ratchet & Clank 1-3
Things marked with * have HD remakes announced/released, so you might want to get those instead
And since it's backwards compatible:
-Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
-Silent Hill
-Spyro 1-3
-Crash Bandicoot 1-3
-Metal Gear Solid
-Tekken 3
-Final Fantasy VII, VIII & IX
-Resident Evil 2

Listen up son the PS2 still has the best library of games for any console.
Devil May Cry 3
Soul Reaver 2
Soul Reaver: Defiance
Metal Gear Solid 2(Get the substance edition, lot#s of extra stuff)
Metal Gear Solid: Subsistence (near impossible to find, but worth it)
Onimusha 3: Demon Siege
Prince of Persia: The sands of time
Psi-Ops (woefully underrated)
Resident Evil 4 (IF YOU GET ONLY ONE GAME, MAKE IT THIS)
Shadow of the Colossus
Star Wars: Battlefront II (apart from KOTOR, the only good star wars game)
Timesplitters 2 (My favorite game of all time. It defined me as a gamer)
XIII
That's just off the top of my head. Go get to it!

I'd advise you to get the Gamecube version of this instead since you already have a Wii, it was a bit better. Also get the Wii edition of Resident Evil 4, it's by far the best version. You definitely shouldn't miss out on these two games.

I don't know exactly what the differences are, but apparently it looks a little better, the multiplayer maps are larger and some other stuff. It's all very minor, but obviously when you have a choice you should go for the slightly better option. Also the Gamecube controller is better suited to shooters than the PS2 controller, with the fancy triggers and all.

The PS2 has such an awesome library. It was probably my most played console when I was growing up. I bought one just a couple years back because my old one broke and I still had over 70 games for it.
Here's a quick list of some of my favourite titles that you didn't mention already:
The Warriors
Red Faction
Deus Ex
Bully
Freedom Fighters
All the TimeSplitters games
Red Dead Revolver
Scarface: The World Is Yours
The Getaway
True Crime Streets of New York

You should definitely buy all the timesplitter games, those are classic, but DON't buy true crime-streets of new york. That game was buggy as hell.
Also, buy as much shadow the hedgehog copies as possible, and burn them.
Burn them all.

The only discernible difference apart from controls is that the minigames have slightly larger screens on the xbox and gamecube versions.

Rachet and Clank 1-3
Jak and Daxter 1-4
Sly Raccon 1-3
Devil May Cry 1-3
Metal Gear Solid - All of them
Silent Hill 1-4
Timesplitters 1-3
GTA San Andreas
Spyro - Enter the Dragonfly & A Heros Tail
Ico and Shadow Of The Collosus
They are the best ones that come to mind
I am lovin' me some Retro Haze .

If you say so, but the controller is still a good enough reason to choose the GC version.

Another game that was better on GC than Wii is Twilight Princess.

Well, yeah. Probably the best controller ever for first person shooters. Them triggers man.

Everything is too spaced out to be efficient.
And no shoulder buttons?
Playstation 2 controller got it exactly right.

Not really, unless you have extremely small hands, but then the PS2 controller would feel just as bad. The face layout is whack, but spaced out?.. nah.
And no shoulder buttons?
Wait what? There's two triggers and a Z button. Sure there's no reason for them to only have one shoulder button other than to shoot themselves in the foot, but still. It had no select button and the analogs didn't click either (not that any nintendo fan will ever admit that that was a massive problem) but it's still one of the best and most ergonomically designed controllers ever made. Have you ever actually used this controller? It feels so much better than it looks.

eh
I'd say the classic controller pro is the closest thing to perfect, it's the PS2 layout with GC handgrips. If only it had good triggers, then it would be like sex in your hands.

You got me.
In my defense, it does look pretty damn horrendous.
But I suppose Nintendo hasn't made a bad controller yet.
Couldn't be worse than this, I suppose.
Imagine holding that.

Well, no, it's generally considered to be a piece of crap and only the most nostalgia-blinded fanboys will tell you otherwise. Not the worst controller ever made but it's up there.

I've heard the Wii U controller is much more comfortable than it looks. It's bloody huge, but it's not too uncomfortable, or so I've read. It definitely doesn't look all that great.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand:
Get Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, OP. It's really fun if you like shooting up other robots. If there's any game you should AVOID on the PS2, it's Final Fantasy XII. Avoid it like the plague.

Why do you hate XII so much? It wasn't great, but it wasn't that bad either. Definitely no worse than X-2.
