You don't need them, you don't have hundreds of thousands of $$$ worth of mastering gear, and you probably won't be able to figure out the maths to make your system work effectively.
Not directed at you by the way, Rig. More so just speaking from my own personal experience with a tiny, boxy little home-studio.

I would seriously mistake that for a mattress on first sight.

They're pretty darn comfy. And yeah, jarrydn - diffusers aren't high on my list at the moment. I'll see what I can do with my mattress/cocoon thingies.
Well it took a couple days, but they're all assembled! I'll hang them tomorrow - the sticky hooks aren't effective in this room, so I need some drywall anchors.
Also, my speakers are in customs and will be here next week! I'm so excited :D :D :D
This pic looks like "The Army of Darkness", evil mattresses version :))
Y u mad tho?

That pic reminds me of the cards in Disney's Alice in Wonderland... you know, the scene where they chase her in a line and she tips them all over...

This is typically not recommended. The T/S parameters of the speaker are specifically chosen for the box type they are placed in. Using drivers with Q and Vas measurements suited to a ported box will provide poor results (and often a significant deviation in frequency response) if the box is changed to being sealed.

Don't worry, I have no intention of modifying the speakers. Only my room. :D
Speaking of which, I got a bunch of the absorbers up this afternoon. They're not all even vertically, but I don't care enough to lose sleep over it.
Looking pretty sick man, I especially like the touch the oldschool furniture gives. Classy motherfucker up in this building
looks like a hip coffee shop.
Party at Rig's yo.

Indeed. (o_q)
My next step will be to get myself a few bales of that cheap pink insulation and fill the corners with them. Bass traps ftw
Another view! I'm off to buy insulation soon.
Are you gonna cover those absorbers with something? I think it would look pretty strange if you had friends over and they saw those things hanging on the walls.

Nope, they're gonna hang out in the open for all to see. I'm thinking of getting some artist friends to paint designs on them. That'd look cool.

Well yeah with 'cover' I didn't just mean putting a blanket over it or something, I also meant covering them with paint. ;)

Yeah, I hope to do so. Not the whole thing, but just patterns. The more paint that covers the surface area, the more highs are reflected. I want to preserve the high freq absorption.

As you've been doing this, how much has the quality of your sound improved?

I just have the pads up above the couch now, and the flutter echo between that and the far wall is slim to none. Almost all the audible flutter is from the other two walls. :O
It's a great change. I'm not putting up the rest of the pads until I get my speakers and figure out where the first reflection will be.
Get someone to spray grafitti all over those bitches haha. Man this room is looking so kickass!
They're made by stacking up that same insulation I used for the absorbers in the corner and covering it with felt.
you can see the face of the trapped bass :O
And why doesn't EVERY office have a felt-covered door?

Look out! This is going to be a room where no one can hear you scream...

Bwahahahaha.
Here's a shot of my prototype. I actually needed less insulation than that to fill the whole corner. Yay physics.
This side of the room is pretty much done, I think. I may put bass traps in the ceiling and floor corners of that wall, but I'll wait for my sub to arrive before I do it.
