No, it would probably make people want to get things done quickly as they can. Then again, George W. Bush didn't find Bin Laden in the last days before the election or McCain, but they're not very smart. It's an important issue that may in fact be the biggest of all because the issues that happen after this are going to be affected by the new President. It's a silly notion because people should have solved those problems when they should have.

It's all very amusing. People love to use the rhetoric of democracy to justify statesmen and the kind of power that the wield, but only when it doesn't inter fear with certain politicians pursuing a very specific agenda. When it does, Democracy can take a back seat to 'the good of the people'
The will of the people appears to be the good of the people, except when it isn't, and more often then not, it isn't.
