My 1st question is how long did these take you? Before we get into it any further I would like to know that if you don't mind.

Have you read any online tutorials or art books yet? I think you should study some basics and then look up specific things your having trouble with later.

Well you should start by learning to draw stick figures and basic shapes before adding detail to them.

This can be done with any object that has shape. But flowing things are harder to explain. Here's an example.

OH, MY, GOD :D I've been trying to draw a decent looking woman all day xD I'll try and work on that ahah, But yeah, I think I see what you mean ^_^ It's 11:50pm, and I gotta finish my brother's b-day present, but I'll try and put something up by tomorrow :) (unless I suddenly feel the need to do it tonight ahah)

Because it takes practice bud, keep practicing and I'm pretty sure youll get where you want to be. Just takes time and effort( and blood and sweat and tears and a bunch of art block days). Just keep a mindset of where you want to get and you'll get there.

That's a lot better. Just practice some anatomy now. Look up some anatomy references and pay close attention to how long/wide/far apart all the body parts are. Just basic proportions, y'know? The thigh is about as long as the whole torso, elbows reach the end of the rib cage, fingers should be just long enough to touch one's own crotch without bending over.

I see you tried to put some clothes on her. Don't worry about that yet, just try to work on body shape first. When I first started out, I made all my characters with skin tight clothes so I could focus on my anatomy. Flowing things like hair and shirts take a different approach than things with real shape.

From what I can see, her boobs are too far apart, her belly button is too high up, and you need to work on the elbow areas. From the angle you drew the arms, the forearm should overlap the bicep, not the other way around. You have to pay attention to what body parts are overlapping so it looks like they're properly in front.

Oh hey. I noticed you tried to shade this one. You should learn about light sources later. Just focus on that anatomy and stick figures.

A common mistake, I think, that most beginners make, is to make the center of an object bright and put shadows around all the edges. You can practice later by drawing spheres, apples, cubes, pyramids with light coming from different angles. But don't worry about that yet.

Those 2 bugs, despite the poor colouring choices, look far better in every conceivable way than that latest garbage character. And they had some character to them. This new one is a tutorial fuckup. I know KingLoui meant well and he just wanted you to understand the basic anatomy, but I do think in this case, it's almost better that you don't for a while. That pink little tower might have turned out pretty cool too, but you filter-raped it to death.

Ozzy, just don't touch photoshop tricks anymore. Just add a layer on top of your drawing, put it to "Multiply" state in the Layer tab and use the brush to colour everything, even the backgrounds. Or do it manually.

And certainly no more filters, they're demonic. Same goes for gradients, you can only use them rarely.

A rather disgusting-looking git that should have been disposed of ages ago.

test-object, his bugs will look a lot better when he learns to abstract from more realistic anatomy. I think the female figure he drew was a good first try. It looks a lot better than my first full body did.

Soo, no filters, learn basic shapes better, then move to anatomy :) Got it lol

I think I'm gonna try and draw on paper a while so the Photo Shop tricks don't tempt me ahah

Might be a while since I post an attempt though, since I'm not sure how long I'll take to make something I feel worth sharing xD Got a seemingly large amount of ground to cover unless someone knows a tutorial that could speed the anatomy and shape learning a bit? :) If not, on to work I go :)

Thanks for the advice though :D
