I have never heard many people do that, but I actually did do it myself. Well, that was just one time when I was writing this school report about the importance of fuel or something. It reminds me of this funny "Pearls Before Swine" comic that featured a guy saying his ears would literally fall off, which they did. The writer Stephen Pastis wrote in commentary, "The word literally has lost all of its meaning. Literally".
