It used to be that all you had was a pocket knife to mark a tree with your name. In a hundred years, if the tree isn't gone, your name would be high up in the sky after you had already died. Used to be a pen would do just fine. Write your name on the side of a wall, on a sign. You were there at one point in time, and anyone who read that would know you were once alive.
I think the internet is just the same. Only people aren't satisfied with you just knowing their name. They have to type a wall of text, one after the next. They want you read something long. They want you to know what they think.
A damn shame that most of the simple names people carved into trees was better then these walls of text, one after the next. People used to be together, with a girl, crafting hearts into trees and walls, with friends goofing around drawing a penis with balls, writing about how a certain sports team sucked on those.
Now people are simply alone. Typing at home, with no original thoughts of their own. Copy and pasting. Posting memes and wasting, time on people they never really get to see or touch, shake hands with, or fuck. They have this computer keyboard in front of them, instead of what they really need, a friend, or a girlfriend.
And so it goes, until all we are after we die is lines of code. And like walls that can be knocked down or painted over, or trees that can be cut down and turned into coffins and toothpicks, a wall of text can be deleted.
Even when these things stay around for years after a person has since became friends with other people, made new girlfriends, moved on in life, possibly passed away... these little marks left behind, the scribbles, the scratch with a knife, the codes in lines, the passing of time will make them obsolete. Perhaps a neat little find for some other person, in some other time. But on a grander scale, it is completely overlooked. I'll never know that perhaps Jimmy loved Sandy 4 ever. The tree will simply grow to high. The ink on the wall may fade. What the hell am I trying to say?
That's up to you, this streaming conscious thought is trying to say something I am apparently trying to convey. Maybe that no matter what, time goes by and the past is gone away.
Congratulations.
However, you intelligence will only be rewarded with memes and trolling.
A true shame. But do remember, your opinion is true and constructive. A great idea.
With a touch of hypocrisy.
Very deep, man. I like it.
I must agree with Bantun though on the touch of hypocrisy. That's alright though, since it kind of proves your point in a way. Nowadays the internet is everyone's tree or wall; however, with a tree or a wall, writing a wall of text was more difficult. When a person sits on their ass, eating bag after bag of Doritos while watching reruns of their favorite Naruto episode, posting on four different forums because the internet is their only human interaction, a wall of text is almost necessary and comes with the territory. Plus, it's easy when you've got nothing else to do.
Alas...
Boop boop beep boop.

I think there's more to it than that. Everyone wants to feel like they've left their mark, even if it's something small, that others will see and for just a moment feel something, anything, whether in remembrance, appreciation or even just acknowledgement. The internet equivalent of having your name sky high on a tree would probably be having your name displayed on half a million websites, which is entirely unrealistic. So they resort to a wall of text instead, an easily accessible expression of individuality with perhaps a little flaunting of intelligence, with the hope that maybe one day after they're gone someone will find it and think "Oh. They seem like an enjoyable character, shame about the dead thing."
And when you consider what's already on the internet, what's already impressing people daily, it should be no surprise to see someone putting in a lot of effort so their little piece of representation has a chance to compete amongst the big boys.
This is sexy and all, but these wall of texts are too long and therefore i cannot be bothered to read them, sorry guys

Without moments of hypocrisy, could any of us really claim to be human?
The thought had crossed my mind just the same. It's hypocritical to place the blame on walls of text and make anyone feel ashamed of things they feel they have to say, when my post was nothing if but a lengthy claim.
My wall of text is the name of the game today. We are all now part of the way things have changed. It still seems a shame that instead of going outside, and having fun, most people park their butts on chairs, and stare at something for hours that could not possibly love, or even like them, instead of feeling the sun, the breeze, holding hands with your girl.
Most people in this world now hold hands with misery. Not laughing or knowing anything but how to be rude and cruel, because the internet is used by lonely people, and people alone are people who let their true colors shine on through. The comfort of ones own home is a place in which a person speaks their true point of view. And that's the really bad part. I guess everyone was like that from the start. Only now in this time and space can they say what they mean without needing to be face to face.
The world around us decays in ways that we must obey. We have to say what we have to say in updated ways that make us pay. Because in time, who we were will be recorded in machines, that can be read and re-read by our children and grandchildren. Like how many of us might look through a parents old journal, or notebook filled with pictures and drawings.
Instead of a child noticing that the old tree out in the backyard might have the names of their parents in a little heart, they will go online and see how their parents spent their time arguing about pointless shit, and they will grow up thinking that this behavior is legit. And so it goes. "LOL" will be in the dictionary. Things like a father texting will replace a father teaching his son how to fish or play baseball. It already has. It's only going to get worse.
We have all these new toys, and the biggest thing is the internet. What was supposed to bring everyone closer together, and is being called the "social network" is actually having the effect of making people see their friends and loved ones less often, because they are too busy to hang out. They're on the computer and don't want to be bothered!
When I was a child I used to think it was funny to carve/write "Caesar was here 50 BC" onto things.

Are you still holding on to that? Why don't you get a life? That was like a month ago, or whatever. I don't really care anymore, but I'll explain it to you simply. I was trying to get Tom "multi-millionaire" Fulp to give a bit more back to the artists that make this website the place it is. Artists who contribute to this website get screwed. This place wouldn't be as cool if they didn't contribute. The contracts should be rewritten to give every member who submits their hard work more money. Instead, they get this pay per click thing for the advertisements on their page or whatever, that ammounts to like a penny per click, and they never see a red cent, because the most ammount of money you get take out is like 50 bucks. Your average artist on newgrounds is not popular enough to ever reach 50 bucks, and yet their work is what makes this website cool. I don't normally even click on ads while viewing the art, or music, or games here because I'm looking at the submissions.
This was the thing with that thread oh-great-one... Tom Fulp is a multi-millionaire. He could afford to give a bit more to the people who made that possible if he wanted to. To see all the people I was trying to explain that to actually disagree with me and hate me for it was mind-blowing. But hey, like I said, that was a month ago. I don't care anymore because nobody else seems to care anyway.

So any member who submits a piece of crap should get a cut of money no matter what effort they did or did not put into it? That doesn't sound right or fair. Also Newgrounds doesn't have to have an Ad Revenue system you know, it is something nice to give to people. Besides there are countless competitions for members to win money with, and Tom only counts those with original content nowadays. There are also contests held by individuals of Newgrounds.
This is a site not to contribute to, it's a site that people can use to share their works with others, connect with people and have fun. It was originally a site for Tom's stuff, others wanted to post their stuff here and Tom opened that door, he didn't have to. There are a lot of things Tom did not have to do, but he did anyways.
Again you stated it, you don't care about it, but you still come back to this site. Doesn't make sense why you would come to a site that isn't run the way you think it should be especially since you have qualms with the one who put it here in the first place.
Don't they have forums for people with the sheer amount of existential angst that you contain? I mean what the fuck, spit it out or shut the fuck up and keep it concise.
As for your whole nostalgia breakthrough, its probably because people started just realizing that their desire to mark the world with their presence wasn't going to do shit when everyone else was doing the exact same thing. So they stopped. I know I did.
not enough walls in this world for everyone anymore, too many people.
time to RAMPAGE!
What do you mean nobody does that anymore?
Half the graffiti I see on school walls, in public, in people's notebooks, is "______ was here" I can't even count the number of times I've written "SCOTT WAS HERE" in people's items, on tests, etc.

Don't think that I don't see your point. But I mean, really, anyone who makes something obviously made the time to do he work. It was an idea they had, and it was cool that they shared. They should see some cash flow. Times are hard. Tom Fulp would not know about that, but times are hard. I see your point, but if people submitting work are making this site what it is, they deserve some money.
That doesn't sound right or fair.
You miss my point. People should get money when they have visitors on their page. Not just when someone clicks an ad that was on their page. That's all I'm about man. No hostility is called for. People should get some cash for making this website what it is. But Fulp pockets the dough, and instead only extremely popular users get any real profit. And even popular users don't see much income... Meanwhile... at the Fulp mansion... you see my point?
Also Newgrounds doesn't have to have an Ad Revenue system you know, it is something nice to give to people.
I see where you get it twisted. You think that's a generous thing for newgrounds to do. But you have it backwards. Newgrounds is a business. They wouldn't just put an Ad Revenue system into practice if it didn't help increase the profit of the website. They have the system in place to show advertisers that they mean business. It's a status thing. More people advertise on newgrounds because they have this system which parades around as something "for the people". But, are you really that naive? It's a ploy brother. They do that so more companies will say, "hey, let's run an ad on that site, because we'll get a better chance of getting clicks. The people on that website are being paid to get clicks, so we'll definately get some clicks there!"
And that's the thing. Plain and simple. These millionaires don't care about you. They care about getting richer, and you staying broke. They care about getting all this FREE content from artists all over the world, (so THEY don't have to actually create everyrthing.) and collecting the proceeds.
Besides there are countless competitions for members to win money with, and Tom only counts those with original content nowadays.
Sure, to keep you all in check. This is how the meeting probably goes... "Okay, so we should run another giveaway contest. It will show them that we our on their side. I mean, what's a hundred dollars when we have millions? This will keep their focus off how bad we are screwing them, and at the same time actually make it appear as if we are generous and for the people."
I mean, I'm sick of talking about it, but use your brain great-one. You can't see them doing this to keep making good money? The world is run by money. They don't want to put it in anyone's pockets but their own. So they run a few contests here and there, and add an ad revenue system. That small potatoes that are neccessary to part with, because it adds up to bigger profits for them in the end when these gullible loyal fans keep churning out artwork, music, flash games, etc... to keep them in business.
There are also contests held by individuals of Newgrounds.
This is a site not to contribute to, it's a site that people can use to share their works with others, connect with people and have fun. It was originally a site for Tom's stuff, others wanted to post their stuff here and Tom opened that door, he didn't have to.
Listen, this website isn't just Tom's work anymore. No matter how you look at it. Plain and simple, this website is filled with everyone's work. So, thanks Tom. How noble of you to keep all the money...
There are a lot of things Tom did not have to do, but he did anyways.
Give me a break, will ya? This is a multi-million dollar corporation. Everything they do is specifically designed to make it appear as if they are "for the people" because THAT is what puts money in their pockets. they get away with it easily because most users either don't really care, or are stoners and teenagers with no self-esteem.
Again you stated it, you don't care about it, but you still come back to this site. Doesn't make sense why you would come to a site that isn't run the way you think it should be especially since you have qualms with the one who put it here in the first place.
I like coming here because I get to talk to people. Granted, they aren't always pleasant people. But I connect with a select few. That's why I come here. Because this is my only connection with those people. That, and I just plain like coming here to either express my views, or randomly vent, or talk about social issues, and personal problems. But it isn't all doom and gloom. I like to share poetry, streams of thought, talk about my views, and get into meaningful conversations. And just because I showed an interest in getting artists here more money for their work doesn't mean you have any business questioning my motives for revisiting this website. I'll do whatever I damn well please.
You make a very good point, mate.
You also seem to be unintentionally rhyming.

I mean nobody on a much grander scale. What I really mean is that nowadays, people are more likely to post online, or have their noses buried in a smart phone than have a true connection with people. My post was meant to be poetic and a touch sarcastic. Of course people still do the crap I said they don't do. I'm saying that more often today than ever before, some are too busy playing wilh apps, and cell phones, and computers, and video games, etc... to have a real emotional and phyiscal connection with reality, nature, and each other. They spend more time toying with artifical intelligence than exploring how they could be putting a smile on each other's faces. Instead of going outside and appreciating the feel of the sun on their skin, and interacting with people, and making friends... they just constantly fuck around with a phone, or some object that gets internet serivce, and avoid eye contact. It's pathetic.
