Mario's Castle Collab 2 Topic (Click)

Since submissions are currently closed for the collab at that link, I figured I'd move my concept animation over here to the animation thread, to keep things more organized over there. Depending on how things go over there, this concept may end up in that collaboration or in my own original work. I'm keeping my options open for now, just in case.

Anyway, without further ado, here's the first concept I've got. From my estimates, it's about a third of the way done.

[Oh, and this is my first animation since my Digital Media class long ago and far away, where we used Photoshop CS4 to hand-animate a scene, so be gentle. ;) ]

All right, go nuts! And thanks in advance for the feedback! :)

are you stupid

No matter how good you are at something, there is always someone better. I'm living proof of that.

Not bad. What's the punchline going to be though? I'm assuming Mario's going to end up under the castle and then the castle will collapse down on him or something. It'd definalty help if you mentioned what the overall idea was so we could all critique that. :>

Can't you offer any help or critique without insulting someone? He's just asking for some help on his part, that was totally unnecessary.

Yeah, kinda forgot about that part, sorry. ^^; Wanted to save it as a surprise for when I was finished with the entire concept. Speaking of which...

I'm sure everybody gets the basic idea - burrow under the castle and try to blow it up/break it apart/whatever from there. With that in mind, I combined that idea with some of my favorite Saturday-morning-cartoon shenanigans from when I was a kid. The punchline? Well...what if the world was flat, and looped after a certain point? Seems Mario found out the hard way...

I fixed a few things from the original here, mostly removing the background static from the skid in the beginning. Sure, there's still bound to be stuff wrong with it, but I think it turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. :)

One thing's for sure, though: if I ever actually made a full movie with this one in it, I probably wouldn't do something that long for the vast majority of them, lol.

Dude that part is ace! I always find unexpected punchlines are the funniest when executed correctly. Well done. :>

Lol, thanks! It means a lot, really. :)

I think I'll keep working on these. They're a lot of fun once you get the hang of everything.

I say he's stupid because this thread is completely pointless, entirely inappropriate for this forum and has no place anywhere on the NG BBS.
You started an entire thread just to ask for advice on an unfinished 5 second piece of animation for a specific collab that already has a long running thread.

...Mm-hmm. I'm right here, Negative Nancy. You COULD address my stupidity to my face...you know, if you had the balls. xP

Anyway, let me explain my prerogative, since you can't seem to follow along...

I was told by one of your higher-ranking co-authors (according to the number of submissions he made) the following:

At 9/12/11 11:57 PM, captaindrbob wrote: I think we should focus on getting in all the entrys before we start watching and posting new material. Just wait until Travis reopens the collab.

With this in mind and Travis nowhere to be found to confirm it, I didn't want to hold down your collaboration with my amateur spriting skills by submitting a work that could potentially never get into the production. However, I still wanted advice on what I could do better with my animation concepts as a whole. So, while it was still technically considered mine, and not some jointly-owned work that your collab laid claim to, I moved my animation over here, and went the certifiably cliched route of, "Hey guys this is my first animation please help me get better". Thus, this little note in the first post of this thread:

At 9/13/11 01:09 PM, MonoChromium wrote: [Oh, and this is my first animation since my Digital Media class long ago and far away, where we used Photoshop CS4 to hand-animate a scene, so be gentle. ;) ]

So by doing this, I'm simultaneously advertising your collaboration in a different thread of the site and getting some advice for my own animations when I work on them in the future. That doesn't seem like something a stupid person would do, to be honest.

Here's the rundown: while the medium that I was using to display my talent was related to the collaboration, I was seeking advice for MYSELF, not advice to further the collaboration as a whole. So I posted my concept in the thread that was meant from the beginning for seeking advice for oneself.

Just because I used your tools to make it doesn't mean you own my concept yet. I still have to give you my consent to use it, which at this point, I'm honestly not too inclined to do. You haven't exactly made a good first impression, you know what I'm sayin'?

So, I hope that clears up the stupidity issue. If not...well, it's not like anything you say can actually change my mind at this point, so I wouldn't really care either way. ;P

This is a tad off topic and a bit of a shameless plug on my behalf, but would you be willing to check out the Holy Sprites Collab 3 thread?

This collab is being run by Sunrie with myself and liljoey50 offering critique on the parts submitted. So far we have a few good ones... but we need more x__x. Would you be interested in making something? The rules are listed there, and the only things we won't allow in the collab really are 4chan jokes and memes. Everything else is fair game :>.

I did. Or otherwise, where do you live.
Negative Nancy? Is that your way of disregarding a rational statement that you disagree with?

There are no ranks when it comes to the collab members, although Travis will most likely take my advice over anyone else's, much in the same way he is using my ending sequence over captaindrbob's.
The collab submissions are closed, temporarily, but that only means Travis is not making an effort yet to get anyone's fla files until he finishes collecting those already submitted. He IS still monitoring everything, and people are still critiquing any parts posted on the thread. Seriously? You didn't notice that?

Here's the rundown: while the medium that I was using to display my talent was related to the collaboration, I was seeking advice for MYSELF, not advice to further the collaboration as a whole. So I posted my concept in the thread that was meant from the beginning for seeking advice for oneself.

You are seeking community wide enrichment on a five second animation where barely anything happens. Yes, I think its safe to say that's quite stupid, or at least very, very funny.

Just because I used your tools to make it doesn't mean you own my concept yet. I still have to give you my consent to use it, which at this point, I'm honestly not too inclined to do. You haven't exactly made a good first impression, you know what I'm sayin'?

First of all, the template I made is some easily put together sprites. I don't give a shit about consent for using them. But if it was something you needed my consent for, my "first impression" on you has nothing to do with whether or not you should ask. Everyone, no matter how much of an asshole they might be, deserves that amount of respect for staking claim on any intellectual property. Your mentality on that matter is insanely immature.

So, I hope that clears up the stupidity issue. If not...well, it's not like anything you say can actually change my mind at this point, so I wouldn't really care either way. ;P

MonoChromium

As far as the stupidity issue goes, yes I believe that has been made very clear. Thank you for your wisdom and enlightenment on these matters.

I don't see why this should affect you Lange, all he's asking for is tips.

ON topic, that part easily has to be one of the best I've seen among the other entries.
Well executed, my friend!
