Linux is more secure, due to the kernel having user accounts integrated. In Windows, it was just built on top, and some flaws were still manually patched.
Back in the day, you could just say "make me admin" in the command line, and it would make you admin.
This was fixed in Windows 7!
In Windows 98, you could log into an admin account, by pressing "cancel" on the login screen.
Microsoft build a dike with a huge amount of holes in it, and is now trying to plug those holes with their fingers. This wouldn't have happened if they used the proper concrete in the first place, like Linux or OS-X.
Linux however, has a monolithic kernel, while OS-X and Windows have hybrid kernels. I'm a bit too tired to explain the advantages of this now, but let's just say monolithic kernels are a bad idea.
