Do you think that far into the future comic book characters will be seen as a religion by the next generation studying our old civilization?
Catholics obviously believe other religions are crazy made up bullshit, and vice versa...
So by that logic, do you think our crazy made up bullshit like Superman could ever be mistaken for a religion in the future? I mean people keep statues, books, movies of him in their homes...

It'd have to be at least within a span of 8,000-10,000 years before something like that could be considered. Even then, I doubt anyone in the future would be foolish enough to see a comic book as religious material.

Except with modern technology, the entire civilized world has access to all we currently know. We have so many records public to so many people that it is incredibly unlikely that anyone could mistake a current fictional character for a real person.
If it for some reason did, it would never be a mainstream religion. You know, like Oprahism or Voodoo.

What about scientology? That's founded on some recent crazy bullshit, and it has a massive following...
what about movies, it's kind of obvious it's not religion, can you mistaken child doodles for religious drawings sent by gods to the baby's head
If batman was worshipped by gotham city citizens, what would joker be?
I mean what will the next generations believe about the bad guys.
no comic book nerds are athiests
and thine lord Spiderman said with great power cometh great responsibility and verily did he shag Maryjane until the green goblin smite them whoa is the darkness of the land and sad is the man called peter parker. Do not follow Doc Oc into the land of temptation, the evil of man haveth many arms to touch you with.

It's like that one episode of futurerama where Star Trek became a religion...
Then of course it got banned and everyone who worshiped were executed...
Most comic books have morals as evilartform stated. Perhaps in a Fallout type situation, a couple of generations later couldn't tell what was fiction or religious text.
That's a very interesting point you have there.
Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did.
Somebody would have to begin regarding superhero characters as gods right now in order for that belief to spread sufficiently and become a major religion so to speak. And I have a hard time believing that right now enough people would be deluded enough to believe that clearly fictional picture book stories constitute a portrayal of gods. After all, in order for a religion to start, there must be an original "witness" to the powers or events detailed in "scripture," or else the story lacks any credibility.

But you have to be rich to get in, so it's slightly different. That's more a cult than a religion, I would think.

In the event of a post-apocalyptic Earth that would be entirely possible. Any other instance, No.
Do God-Tier webcomic characters count? :D
Well since Elron Hubbard wrote sci fi novels and people turned it to religion I can see someone worshiping Galactus Devourer of Planets 250 years from now.
It depends on whoever is the creator of it. I think J. Michael whatever is an atheist, so he wouldn't want anything made by him to be a religion. I have heard that Alan Moore believes that he's a wizard or some other strange religion, so if there's any guy who would make a religion, it would be him! Then again, L. Ron Hubbard founded a religion and I don't think he told people to believe in stories he made and he's not thought of highly.
