I got some art now, for Critique 2011-09-08 14:33:20 Reply

Alright, sorry for last time, I posted it early only because I was gettin pictures up tomorrow.

Now I have some! Bad news is, only the sharpies are my good ones, th3e other are character design sketched because I couldnt find any thing else sadly. I recently relocated my room to a new area and all my art is in several art folders and atm I cant find the box. Also because I am unsponsored, I canonly post 20 photos up and even when I find my stuff I cant ass the betetr more well done pieces.

So heres what I had on my drawing pad and stuff. Check my newgrounds page to see them.

Anyway as stated in my last forum for people who dont get know...

I feel my art needs more to it, I dont think I shade well or color or fill in well. I also feel my unique style has morphed into this copy-cat style where it takes thing subconsciously from anime and mangato the point where its no longer my own.

It looks alot like Tite Kubo's Bleach atm, I really respect him as my favorite anime artist, mixed a little with like dragonball z and katekyo hitman reborn and other manga and anime like that. Also incorporating stuff like character designs or clothes design similar to Tetsuya Nomura, the artist for final fantasy 7-13 and the creator of Kingdom Hearts.

It not a 100% rip of not even a 40% rip off I think but... It definitely has those characteristics in them and I want my art to be more... Me but I love my art at the same time...

Plus I have never had another artists opinion on my art so I would love to get anyones opinion by reviewing my art on here! I would really appreciate it, both positive and negative criticism will help for it will boost my moral and/or help me better myself.

If someone could tutor me or give me hints or advice, please PM me after seeing my art. Not that this isnt my best stuff but its close, the sharpy is some of my best, I have better but in boxes.

Also I am starting a manga and animation which I posted in the collab section, if anyone wants to be apart of that look there I am up on the board atm.

Well thats all I have to say! Than you and I hope to hear from any of you son!

P.S. Heres a sample V

What you posted doesn't look bad. Personally I'm not big into the manga style in general but I've seen enough of it to know what's decent and what isn't.

The problem is that the image you posted doesn't allow me to address most of the concerns you've expressed about your abilities. It isn't shaded, so I can't critique your shading, and it isn't colored, so I can't critique your coloring. It's also difficult for me to comment on your grasp of proportion because not enough of the character is visible.

The hair looks good. The earring chain looks weird. Like the checkered hoodie. The zipper looks slightly to big. The neck looks fine. The nose kinda looks like Voldemort's.

3Thank you. The earing kinda got wierd when I sharpied it it blend the chains together and the thing at the end is a cross. Me to. The zipper is supposed to be like uh.... a curved zipper thingy mabob XD. The neck I messedup shading the neck as u see so i gave up on shading any of it. N the nose I did mess up a littlebut its also because hes mad so his nostrils flare a llittle. please chek out my art section on my profile to see and review more if you please.

Well, the picture you posted certainly isn't terrible.
My first thought when seeing it was that his head is falling off his neck, but then I looked closer and it appears you actually had a thicker neck drawn in... but then blacked out, which I suppoe is where you messed up shading like you mentioned.
I can't really tell if you used pencil first or not because a lot of the lines look like they've been drawn without guidance like in the hair and on the arm of his jacket. If you did then I'd say have a little more patience when you're inking, and if you didn't then perhaps switch to pen. I find when I'm going straight to inks, it's a lot easier to control a ballpoint pen then a sharpie.
The only other thing for me is the ear looks a little complicated. I know the ear is complicated thing, but it's better to fake it on this kind of style.

As far as your portal submissions go, try and use it for your very best work especially since you're unscouted. Put your sketches in your thread and think of your profile more like a portfolio. While your drawings aren't bad, pretty good in fact, they look incomplete. You only need 4 pictures do be scouted, and it can be done with 4 as long as what you submit is impressive. You aren't a bad artists, and you could be really good if you worked on polishing up your drawings.

Other than that I have to say there's nothing wrong with being inspired by multiple artists, even using what you like best about their art in your own. If you're disatisfied though, then work, work, work. Even if you're going for an anime/manga style it's important to build a strong foundation in basic, real-life anatomy and proportion. That way you can get a better sense of how to move and position bodies as well as distort and reshape them to create a style more unique to you.

Hope that helps. :]

w-wow... yes this was VERY helpful, more helpful than any critique!

Yes it wasnt with pencil first, and i draw alot whenim sleepy... and i will when i find my box full of picture folders, I will delete dmost onhere and put my best. Im slowly learnign that even though its the same name item, the brand name makes a huge difference.

I noticed when i used the sharpy onthis picture on the left it was like slop[py and incomplete ad for the sahrpy i used on the other side was smooth and filledin nicely, first bein regular sharpy second being permanent.

I am glad to hear somethign liek that about my worship and copy of other artists haha. My biggest hero in manga related art is Tite Kubo for that rewason, if you see tite kubos art he has the human basics of anatomy very well, his art looks very detailed and very realistic yet being manga ish at the same time. his art is so genius... and the ear is complicates but kinda on accident, i messed up one ear bump n did theother then the other etc etc. I actually do have the basics for the human bodu, anatomy aswell very well actually. I just have a hard time representignit onpaper sicne I only like recently about 2 years ago started applying it and like within thepast 9 months really pulle dit in. I am better than how i am in that picture. I wish to draw just like tite kubo but wiht my unique look justthe same preinciples of his art.

I hope I can get more reviews formyou in the future, you have no idea how this has helped me. Thak you
