PLEASE DO NOT POST COMMENTS IN THIS THREAD! Instead redirect them to the NAC General Discussion Thread.

WELCOME TO THE NINTH OFFICIAL NAC!

The NAC Team is pleased to bring you September's theme: Beat-to-game!

Beat to game? But what does that mean Chron?

Well, here is how it works:

Contest Focus

FrozenFire, the genius behind the currently featured "Symphonic Tower Defense" game, wants to use some of your entries. Basically your entry would be mapped to specific sounds which would be mapped to different "towers" - so kicks may set off a specific colour tower, piano another, bass another..

and now some words from FrozenFire:

"The top 3 entries will for sure be in a game expansion. (along with your usual prizes)
The rest are up in the air depending on the outcome of the competition."

An Example of how it all works

"The role of a musician in any project is always crucial as they are the one setting the tone that underlies everything. In Symphonic Tower Defense, that tone is amplified to be the exclusive driving force behind the game. You, the musician, control whether or not the player is tense or relaxed, scrambling to upgrade defenses or simply dancing while they watch their lives drop to zero.

We are looking for any genre of music, but they must follow the strict guidelines below for the sake of keeping the game fun.
1) A strong beat is needed to spawn enemies. You simply CANNOT leave out the beat for more than 10 seconds.

2) Do NOT be repetitive. Keep the players guessing.

3) The song must be between 3-5 minutes in length.

4) No entries submitted to the Audio Portal prior to September 1st will be accepted.

I'd HIGHLY suggest playing the game first before starting on your submission."
-Matt Ackerman"

You're gonna want driving beats, strong percussion, melodies that change up a lot - not a lot of big "silence areas" in your songs - remember that your song patterns output notes to get "blasted" by the towers when those sounds trigger "pulses" from the towers. So don't make it TOO crazy and also don't make it too plain! Think of like.. ddr songs I guess haha (songs that can easily be patterned :))

Covers and Remixes

Not allowed for this contest due to copyright reasons if he ever sells his game etc. However I suppose you can always remix existing content on newgrounds due to the share license that exists on newgrounds, as long as that song itself isn't violating copyright.

---

Voices

I would refrain from using vocals too much as I am not sure how easily patternable they would be in the game. However if you DO use them.. keep in mind:

1) They are not sampled from copyrighted recordings.
2) Ther are 100% your own recording and creation (or someone who has given you permission)
3) You can ask another artist or group to provide vocals, as long as all material is newly created for your submission, and you provide the details of the vocalist(s), who they are.

Instruments & Collabbing

Recordings of instruments are great! If you do kudos to you! Recording of vocals is super great too. As a result if someone assists you with vocals you may include them as part of your song - just make sure to mention them in your song description. The prize however will only go to the user that submitted the song.

---

Deadlines

All tracks must be in by the deadline. Please check your Newgrounds in-boxes regularly. If you have a problem with reaching the deadlines, please contact us as soon as possible, and we will review your case.

Submissions must not contain any material deemed offensive.

Last but not least, remember to have fun! Don't get too competitive and/or elitist, or I may have to bash some heads! :P

Set Dates & Deadlines For Contest

From now till 11:59 PM EST Friday September 23rd: Submissions will be accepted.
Sunday, September 25th: The 8 finalists will be announced, and their submissions will be closely scrutinized and reviewed by our finalist judges. NO BUTTHURT WHINING PLEASE.

also no pulling a Kanye West please.

Saturday, October 1st: The top 4 will be announced by our finalist judges, as well as frontpaged the next Monday by one of the mods. (if no other big contest comes first)

winners may also be posted on the second, in case of emergencies or me being too busy for some reason on the 1st.. like it being my birthday - MUHAHAHA.

---

The finalist judges for the Remix NAC are...

To be determined - I will be taking offers from anyone interested - so PM me if you are interested. We prefer judges who have been around the block a few times on newgrounds - as evidenced by the all-star lineup we had in the past - so this month we are looking for.. fuck.. I dunno.. committed people who don't suck. I will keep you posted.

Also Tylandril (akaRealmguys aka Tyler) has offered to be a standby judge - which means he is free for me to use in the finalist judging if I feel his skills are appropriate for the contest judging-wise :) He will be most likely helping in this contest.
Evil-dog has also been consistently helping in judging and thus I will also mention him as a standby judge. At the end of the day reliable judges are what is most important. As well as judges that I already have years worth of experience with also helps.

If you want to be a sweeper judge, please talk to BrokenDeck.

Also keep in mind that as a finalist judge you only have ONE WEEK to judge the 8 submissions, so if this is an issue for you, or you think you might not be able to pull through, then PLEASE DON'T OFFER!

We will pick the top three from the 8 finalists.

---

PRIZES

1st Place: $50.00 store credit, weekly feature*, reviewed by all judges, 1st place sig (optional)
2nd Place: $40.00 store credit, weekly feature*, reviewed by all judges, 2nd place sig (optional)
3rd Place: $30.00 store credit, weekly feature*, reviewed by all judges, 3rd place sig (optional)
4th Place: weekly feature, reviewed by all judges
5th Place: reviewed by all judges
6th Place: reviewed by all judges
7th Place: reviewed by all judges
8th Place: reviewed by all judges

*weekly feature is not a guarantee - if another big contest takes precedence that month you may not get featured - sorry.

---

Please post your submissions inthis thread!

This is easy. Just simply post your song link into the text window like you would a web page link! (Don't use the link button)

Remember to have fun, be creative, and good luck!

Unfortunately, no. Also, your song(s) that you have linked, should be uploaded to NewGrounds' Audio Portal, if you wish to officially enter this contest.
