Hey all you fine voice actors out there! Prove your skill and showcase your talent in Newground's 7th Voice Acting Contest! I know you all are probably wondering why FatKidWitAJetPak isn't starting this thread. Well, FatKid and Tom Fulp Have given me permission to take over the contest! So, the rules will be very similar, but even so, be sure to read the rules carefully for any minor changes. So... basically read the rules, check out how the judging works, and submit your awesomeness for prizes and recognition!
Contest Rules (PLEASE READ)
- Each entry needs to be a minimum of 2 minutes long and a maximum of 6 minutes long.
- Each entry must be about THE APOCALYPSE! Open your mind and think out of the box! Be creative! (It counts towards your score)
- Each entry must have at least 3 different voices.
- Each entry must be submitted by October 10th, 11:59PM EST
- Each entry can be any kind of genre.
- No one may help you with your entry. You must do everything by yourself.
- All sounds effects and music must be royalty free. No copyright material is allowed. (Try using the NG Audio Portal!)
- All entries must be sent to the NG audio portal. If you are banned, get a friend to submit it for you.
- Disobeying any rules will result in disqualification.
How To Submit
-All submissions MUST be submitted to the audio portal. As stated above, if you are banned, get someone else to submit it for you. (Note: If it is your first time submitting, there may be a delay for your skit to enter the portal so you might want to get that in early.)
-Once you have submitted the piece to the audio portal, copy the link and paste it into this thread. Once I see it, I will add it to the list.
-Please keep it between 2 and 6 minutes.
The Judging Process
Each entry will be judged per category. Each category has it's own point value. The total points will equal 100. After all points are added up, the more points you have, the higher place you will receive. (In case of a tie, I will break it). The categories are as follows:
Acting - The most important of all, YOUR ACTING! Your voice acting needs to sound like the character is actually in his or her situation. Try not to be monotone and dull. - 35 points
Range - How well each character sounds different from eachother - 20 points
Fit - How well each voice fits the character. *An old man would have a raspy voice and a big guy would have a deep voice, etc...* - 15 points
Originality - How original your skit was. Be creative! - 10 points
Mixing - Not all of us can afford a good mic, but please try to make your final production as high quality as possible! If your voice is fuzzy and staticy, the judges cant judge your voice as well. This also includes how you mix together your SFX and music. - 10
Writing- It's all good if you have great voice acting, but let's try and have your skit make sense! This doesn't mean you have to be another Hemmingway, but there should be some sort of structure to your skit. - 10
The Prizes!
If you end up winning, here is what will happen!
1st Place - $60 Store Credit + Legendary Front Page!
2nd Place - $40 Store Credit + Freakin' Awesome Front Page!
3rd Place - $20 Store Credit + Fantastic Front Page!
4th Place - $0 Store Credit + Groovy Front Page!
If You Want to Judge!
We ALWAYS need judges, preferably a maximum of 5. Please note that if you do want to be a judge, results will be expected by October 17th. If results are not received by this date, your scores will not count.
If you would like to judge, send me a PM explaining why you are qualified to be one! If there are openings, I'll send you what needs to be done!
Other Crap For You to Read!

Just gotta submit a submission to the audio portal and link it in this this thread. :)
Looking forward to the participation! Looks like people are already getting excited!
UPDATES!
First of all, judges so far: JaShinYa and Andrew Dryden!
Also, per Tom Fulp's idea, anyone who happens to be banned and needs someone to submit a skit for them, also have that person post and "un-ban" request to try and get you back into the portal!
I'm a little confused. Can you give me an example of what one might say?

You write the skit yourself.
anyway, I'll judge also lol

Yeah but its very brief. At least give me a scenario, i.e.
Your a survivor of the Apocalypse, using your voice acting skills, make a speech about what happened, your thoughts and how you survived etc.
Well now doesn't this look like fun! I will most definitely have to get on board... sounds like an interesting time.
I might throw in something dangerous in a couple of weeks.
It's supposed to be open to creativity. The example you just gave is great! Do whatever you would like as long as it sticks with the theme.

No one pays ME in gum...
I do believe I'll be submitting for this! Glad to see it's up and running.

part of writing the skit is writing the scenario. If you've seen any of the previous Contests before this one, they pretty much had the same setup as well. They gave a broad theme so that the actors can use their imagination as much as possible.
And awesome Apa! Can't wait to hear ur submission!

Awesome! That WAS quick. Love to see the excitement though! (You're missing a 'P' in your entry title BTW. :) )
So far a good start to the contest! Great job mrbipolar!
:(You're missing a 'P' in your entry title BTW. :) )
Yeh... I saw that afterward... admittedly that was like the third time I had try to get the file to load right for me to submit so I was typing and paying very little attention... :P I can't wait to see what others come up with! As for me being quick... I missed the last contest and wanted to make dang sure I wasn't gonna miss this one!
you should take advantage of this extra time you have to make sure if there are any improvements you can make to your piece before the contest is over. Not saying that your piece is bad in anyway.
That is not a bad idea! I will most definitely spend this remaining time seeing what improvements I can make. Thank you for your very sound advice.
Getting mine in early!
(glad I'm not the only one who seemed keen to get it in early!)

Another great entry! Keep 'em coming! (I'm such a nerd. I get so excited about these things)
Hey! This is an example that i made for all of you to listen to! Obviously this is NOT an entry into the contest, plus it's shorter than is required of you all anyway.
Click to listen.
This is also in the newest episode of Voice Acting Radio which just came out today!
Enjoy!

Now as far as aid goes, can script writing be attributed? No plagiarism of course, but if the script is not solely your own work, you collaborate on it with others and give credit in the submitted piece? I'm assuming when you say no aid, you mean voices.
Sup nerds,
heres draft one of my entry

its about 30 seconds too long. I really don't want to cut any of it, but if its against the rules I guess I'll just have to suck it up.
JaShinYa:
If you ever need any help with your radio stuff you can drop me a line, I'd love to work with ya.
