Becoming a bum by choice?

Sometimes I think life would be so much simpler if I took like a nature survival course, sold everything I had and just focused on living. I think it'd be a lot harder to be depressed and the things that most people value would become unimportant when I have to fight for my next meal and find shelter before night falls.

ah, the great outdoors , the excitement, the joy, the action, the romance , the easy life right ?

Here's some things to consider:

- Are you going to work, to beg, or to live off the land?
- If you're going to work, how will you get to work? Bathe? Shave? Wash clothing?
- If you're going to beg, aren't you just preying on sympathetic people to work for you?
- If you're going to live off the land, how do you plan to do that? Farming? Hunting? Gathering? Where? What climate? Will you be able to survive there in the winter months or the summer heat? Will you have a reliable enough supply of food year-round? How much will you carry around in terms of tools and necessities?

There's a reason why the hunter/gatherer lifestyle has all but faded out, even when supported by the existence of tribes and abundant game. I wouldn't call it impossible to do this, but it's certainly not the simple romantic endeavor that people picture.

Yup. If you haven't noticed, Atlas Shrugged isn't too popular in some circles. Just hang out where the right people live and you'll have a steady food supply.

How is that being a bum? What does "focus on living" mean and why isn't anybody else "focusing on living"? ... They just do it in a different way from the way you propose. Which you describe in a very ignorant way.
