Chow #48

If you dont know, chow stands for character of the week and is a weekly art competition run just for fun, the theme for Chow #48 is "icarus", re-imagine that story any way you want, or just draw a guy with wings

Art rules
- No ms paint (unless its exceptional)
- Humanoid-ish creatures only (arms legs hands etc)
- Must be related to theme
- No other creatures unless they are the secondary focus of the piece
- Character must be original unless otherwise stated.
- Only one finished piece per person will be accepted into voting
- Work in progress pieces can be posted in this thread
- Finished pieces will also go in this thread. Be sure to link to any larger versions on the art portal.
- No uploading old art. While I might not be able to prove you did, it defeats the point - to learn and have fun.
- Make sure you put effort in. Art that clearly took no effort will not be eligible for voting.

Really really reeeeeally rough WIP.
Some guy who lost in the finals of an aerial combat tournament, brooding in the atrium, his artificial wings shattered.
I obviously wasn't going to smear the whole paper with lead, but yeah, I want the comp to be really dark.
Anything on the right of the red line would be black and only the sign board would be lit, casting a bit of light in the shadows.
It should be some kind of changing room, hopefully I'll be able to convey the heavy emotion of defeat. I was hoping to be able to keep the text in the final version, but we'll see.

ahh, i underestimated how long moving takes. I don't think i'll be able to do this one either :/ however, i do see myself able to come back in a week or two for maybe 49 and 50 :) i REALLY wanna try this one though, it sounded like fun >:0 lol

I had fun doing this one, not a too serious one. Something different for a change, I got the idea from when before i knew about icarus i thought he was a she. so this was based on my ignorance back when. Hope you like it, I couldnt color the whole background blue was gonna kill my marker -__-. PS. They are all pretty thick markers so it is pretty hard to keep everything in the lines especially when they warp into the paper.

That is pretty much totally adorable. The color scanned really really well :O Really reminds me of the old nes game I played a bunch of as a kid.

Kumakun is the only one who's made something icirus themed in my opinion. (and the kid icirus fanart of course xD) you see, when the theme is a specific character, it really calls for telling a story. Kumakun is the only one pretty much who didn't just draw something with wings on it. Not to dog the art of the rest of you, it's all really good. But none of it really fits the theme.

they all fit the theme perfectly, i ask people to take the theme loosely, reinterpret it in whatever way they feel is best, and theyve done that perfectly, if everybody drew the character as he is, the original story icarus, the contest would be so boring

i was thinking more, use the character as a template, rather than the story, its fine whatever people do as long as they dont go completely off the rails

lol, I don't really feel like I need to defend myself, but do you really think that chick who spent all that time building herself a rocket pack out of a jet engine is going to have a happy ending? I even gave her a book on 'flight' to suggest she doesn't fully understand the dangers of what she's trying to do.
