before I make jokes about how most kids who take anti depressants don't even need them because they're flat out pussies with their own emotions, please tell us why you're on them!

No. Though my dietitian has advised me several times to talk to my doctor about going on them. I kinda don't want to. I don't know why either.

You don't need medication to manage depression , you need someone to talk to

Anti - Depressants don't have to be pills from pharmacy. Anti-Depressants are the things that make us forget about suicide thoughts which come to our minds after realising that everything we will achieve will not matter anyway, and we will die along with our memories, and lose everything we have, while it all was just conventional, and ask ourselves why are we still alive.

For many anti depressant like that is just lack of their personal intelligence, which doesn't make them think about things like that. They rather spend the whole day focused on doing 2 basic things, and then feel it was a long day, durning which they made hell of a work.

For others, well... for others more of a kick is needed. True adventures where if there was no death threat, it can't be called an adventure, or even an issue. The ability to play Russian Roulette while keeping in mind that we can just stop doing that, and go take care of someone, or finish all those things we wanted to finish. The ability to throw away a life just for an idea, instead of being a coward who doesn't contribute anything to anything anyway.

If we're talking just kids with problems, or just at your level, newgrounds, the drugs which are supposed to boost someone's self esteem are just funny toys for stories and shit. The truth is that to make someone want to kill himself/herself some kind of environment's effort has to be put in it. If there's some kind of shitty parent who just can't notice that there's something wrong in his/her relationship with a child, he/she should just be forbidden to have children.

its a given that synthetic medicine, esp. ones that target something as mysterious as the human brain, can have wildly different effects on different people. this is why doctors and prescriptions exist.

ive never taken anti-depressants but i probably would've if i wasn't so hostile to outside help in my younger years. probably would still be put on something if i go to therapy today. i turned out ok though.

Because they have several purposes. Some medication used to treat depression is also used to treat eating disorders. For example:

I've seen warnings in antidepressant commercials that say taking the product can be fatal.

What's ironic is that you're trading one kind of potential death for another.

While that is interesting, it's more to do with me crying my eyes out during our meetings and talking of my own self unworth.

I take anti-depressants. Last winter I suffered a physically and emotionally traumatic experience, and a few months later when talking to my doctor I admitted to him that I want to kill myself. Suicidal tendencies run in the family, as it happens.

The fact that you're seeing a dietician means that you're unhappy (read: depressed) about your eating habits or your physique. So why is it so incredulous to you that your dietician would recommend you see a Doctor about getting drugs that will help you combat both?

I'm really trying to phrase this as inoffensively as I can, but it seems to me if you're concerned enough to go to a dietician and get upset while you're talking about yourself there, you should really take his/her advice and go see your Doctor.

If it works, it works, if it doesn't... then you won't have lost out on much unless you're one of a minor percentage of people who have some sort of psychotic episode while taking your prescription.

My parents made me start taking anti-depressants when I was 10.

I didn't know any better and now I'm doomed to take them for life.

I don't take any sort of medication nor has my doctor pushed them on me. I understand there are lot of ill people on this website but that's not me. Especially if you're taking those SSRIs for something that isn't a "Chemical Imbalance" and instead anxiety triggered by something that is your own creation in your head. Get a grip users if that is the case.

In my opinion, anti-depressants (and ADD medicine, because they both apply to what I'm about to say) are legitimate drugs that work on people who need them. People who NEED THEM. That being said, they're over prescribed and people who don't need them at all are being told that they're at serious risk if they don't start taking them. Why? Because most doctors are greedy fucks.

It's because the truth of the matter is that anti-depressants are nothing more than sugar pills. That's why it only makes things worse for the first few months.

Forgot to add if that is the case you probably wouldn't want to succumb to the side effects.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSRI_discon tinuation_syndrome

Isn't suicidal thoughts also a side effect? "Treating the symptoms" ... Don't worry in the old days they would fuck up your brain with electroshock and lobotomy.

I used to be on Fluoxetine HCL for depression. I was going through a pretty rough time.
Been off them for over a month and things are going alright now.

I've taken various anti-depressants in the past... none of them did anything though (besides make me worse)
I've also been on a couple of anti-anxiety pills and antipsychotics...
medication just doesn't do it for me :/
