I was able to get Toon Boom studio on ebay for a cheap price. But you could also get the free trials of that or of flash professional. I also suggest a wacom tablet if you draw better on paper rather than with a mouse.

well firs tmost of us use Adobe Flash Professional for our animations and games, but it costs $700.
but you can get Macromedia Flash 8 for a cheaper price (it's an old version of flash but works just fine)
now if you only want a free animation application you can get pencil for free

I'd also recommend any of the programs mentioned above.

if you have the money get flash 8, its smooth and good for noobs like me and you lol. if you wanna animate start off with doing stick figures with a mouse. tablets are good but a mouse makes you better, trust me. if you wanna make games well yeah. PM if u wanna learn more =)
I say get Adobe CS3 because if you ever need to program you can use AS3 instead of AS2. Because I heard to get AS3 on Flash 8 it takes a lot of patching.
ama gon chill
I definitely recommend the Pivot Stick Figure Animator (just search that on google, it's free) It's where i got my start, because it really helps you learn the concept of animation and how it works, how to smooth out movements etc.

id start of with these awesome things called pencils, paper, pens, scanner and TADAH!!! you can learn to animate... when you get good with that you THEN get a program.
Why do I keep seeing the same noobs posting advice on animation when they can't animate themselves?

I've got that. :)
As said, starting with Pencil and Paper is a great way to start. It eliminates any technical barriers and lets you focus on creating good animation and then progress into Flash if you enjoy it. Anyone that would claim pencil and paper animation is "noobish" is a moron, all animators on tv and film production were trained traditionally first
i belive penis is the best way to go about soadnasodnasoidnasd

Well Krinkels' animations are Frame by frame, meaning that he doesn't use tweens that much
check out these tutorials on frame by frame:

You mean "deoxyribonucleic"? You'll need to try harder if you want to be a smart aleck; those among us who are good at it worked really hard to get there!
Thanks, lpfann2, I'll give the "Pivot Stick Figure Animator" a shot!
I'd recommend Adobe Flash CS3.
It's my personal favorite of all the Flash versions.
If you want a more advanced program for purely animation, go for ToonBoom Animate 2.
It's pricey, but you can get the Personal Learning Edition for free.
It's basically a trail version.
I'd also recommend investing in the Animator's Survival Guide.
Hope this helps!
