N00b at Actionscript needs help

Let me start this of by asking you all to keep in mind that I do not have Flash CS5 or any other products by Adobe other than acrobat reader. I also do not wish to download them illegally.
I am new to Actionscript, I have recently mastered the 'Hello world' program and I know how to bring an image into a project. I have FlashDevelop and the program (which name I forgot) to compile my projects.
I would like to make DVD-like menus for the animations I plan to upload to newgrounds in the distant future, but I cannot even figure out how to get the animations into a compiled program(IE, I run the program and I get nothing).
I have tried to learn how from websites, but none of them have helped. I have an impossible time learning code if I can't just see some sample code. I would appreciate some actual code as an example as a response to this, but I would also appreciate a link to a website that will give the same information.
I want to have something like this in the beginning of my flash movies.
Any help at all is appreciated.

That's hardly helpful in any way...so shut the fuck up if you don't have anything related to say.

As for DelRio's problem, I suggest buying Flash 8 to make your assets with. Should be pretty cheap, and will get the job done really easy.

I've considered buying an old flash, but I would like to spend as little money as possible.
If there are any flash8 programs that are under $30 I would be glad to buy one.
