That story summoned a traumatic memory for me from some years ago. I remember working on an animation and then in some specific layer when I removed a movieclip and added a new one the new one would appear as the old one. It didn't made any sense but I remember making a new layer or doing something strange would help making it normal again.
I've also had it a few times in all these years that when I select a graphic in flash it would suddenly disappear or something, nothing you cant fix with Ctrl+Z but its still weird.

But that was Flash SC3 Though, I haven't used the new one that much

Yes yes, I have respect for the people working with that slow and (relatively) unstable envoirement, back to the IDE!

So... you have thing1 and thing2, and when you drag thing2 to the stage it shows thing1. Right? If I'm sure of what you mean I might be able to help you. ;)
