Christianity holds that lusting in one's heart towards someone they are not married to is essentially the same as adultery. The new testament, however, does not actually mention masturbation explicitly at all to my knowledge.
There are separate churches within Christianity that have different dogma on the matter, but as far as I can tell that's the only real prohibition against it.
One could make an argument that it chemically conditions one's self to a dependence on sexual gratification (i.e. chronic masturbation) that is not met within the precincts of marriage, causing laxity in sexual morals and the negative ramifications of the sexualization of society, such as the injustices of the pornographic industry, prostitution, human trafficking, increases in incidences of molestation and sexual assault, and the prevalence of sexual disorders.
However, that's likely to be a very lengthy, entrenched, deeply personal argument that is likely to go nowhere in this present intellectual climate. I suggest you simply investigate the matter for yourself impartially.

I think the argument is that it kills potential life or it is considered lustful. Of course, you can never make a law on morality for something so private. I had absolutely no idea that Hinduism banned masturbation. The only time it was mentioned in the Bible is when Onan was supposed to give his brother a rightful heir but spilt his seed next to his wife and was struck down for it. He was struck down because he did not give his brother a rightful heir, not because he spilt his seed.

it's not that they take it out of context, per se, but rather that they take every line as some sort of divine mandate (and even then, only the convenient ones). it's very likely you've seen a hardcore christian eat shellfish at some point in his life, yet it's forbidden in the same way homosexuality is. those two things were mostly forbidden, not due to those acts being some affront to god, but rather because they posed health risks (considering when those lines were written).
