Im just scared my xbox will get wet. Its been running on and off for the past couple of hours.
I dont think the hurricane will be as bad as they say, honestly. Its only a category 1 too.

If you Xbox is inside your house and it gets wet from the hurricane, I'd be worrying about a lot more than just the Xbox.
Yeah, the hurricane doesn't look like it'll be too bad. But everyone should take precautions anyway and stay safe. I wouldn't want anything to happen to my fellow NGers. <3

Well, I know that the idea of the house flooding and people getting hurt or dying is bad but I doubt thats gonna happen. If my xbox breaks, there goes Skyrim and all those games Ive been waiting for. But I do care more about my grandma. Id rather save her than my xbox.

It's been raining all day here but heavy rain and strong winds are nothing new here, so we're mostly fine on the flooding part. Except my neighbor who didn't want to fix their flooding problem.
So it's just cold and dark here.

So far I heard there have been two reported deaths caused by the storm, in one case a guy was struck and killed by a falling tree branch and the other was a a car accident. People should not be out driving in this storm, that's why I'm going to make a beer run soon and get what I need before it hits here and I'm stuck inside. Also, in case you didn't see the video I posted, it's been reported that 3 houses in Virginia Beach have already had their roofs torn off and there have been tornadoes spotted.

The funny part is if a hurricane does more than enough damage then no other hurricane can have that name. Although Hurricane Oh Shit sounds like it would be pretty bad or an overhyped hurricane that did nothing.

Don't you guys think the hurricane is getting a bit over hyped? Chances are the worse that can happen is a small inches of flood and couple of trees trashing some unfortunate person's uninsured car.

Yeah probably but on the east coast there tends to be low lying areas that are extremely vulnerable to flooding. Its going to dump lots and lots of rain and that is where the concern lies because since its going to hit NYC the whole city could be flooded ok maybe not the whole city but the parts that are next to the water. Also power outages.Maybe there will be widespread looting.

Sensationalist media. Weather men are flipping shit because they are the center of attention.
Buttt I evacuated southeast VA and I just heard from people still dow there that it is windy as shit and an 11 year old boy just died cause a tree fell on him in the town I left. And the Hurricane is just approaching where I was, so maybe it is gonna be bad, who knows.

We dug trenches leading away from our basement to prevent it from flooding, and of course I took it further and practically made them into rivers.
T'was fun.

Was he outside? If so, their parents are pretty stupid to let him out.

I think it's overhyped but not by much, even when it's in new york its gonna have 70 mph winds with a chance of up to low end EF2 tornadoes forming so the damage potential is quite high, the flooding problem is what's overhyped though, rain wont accumulate easily when it's being blown around by the winds of that magnitude. What I am concerned with is what it will do with gas prices in the region since i heard that refineries though could be shut down. We all saw what happened with gas prices when Katrina hit.

This is New York, not New Orleans.
Also once the hurricane arrives, everyone will realize the city isn't getting ransacked by a freakin' tornado.
I remembered Hurricane "Dennis" in 1999, turns out to be overblown and you can drive right through it without much problems.

It definitely has been, but probably for the sake of making sure people take precautionary measures. The winds are weaker than expected, but are still capable of knocking down trees/powerlines and damaging property.
not to mention the risk of tornadoes
The biggest threat will probably be flooding; much of the area around here is waterlogged from all the rain we've been having recently, and it doesn't help if your area is low lying, or if you're by the coast with the storm surge. Also, the hurricane is rather large, and is traveling slowly up the coast.
It's been awhile since a hurricane has had the potential of keeping its hurricane status as it travels into New England, so with THAT many people affected, the storm coverage is just emphasizing the potential of damage.
yo that bitch Irene got mad hype

Yeah Im not really worried anymore.I think the media just loves hyping stuff up because they dont want to go back reporting real boring real life occurrences. But thik there is some concern about what it still can do in terms of downpour!

Damn seriously. So the rain has picked up and I assume the hurricane is only about 50 -60 miles south of us.Hmmmm it has begun.

The flatter area is in the piedmont area so it could be possible for a little bit of flooding there.
