Okay, I'm going to admit right now that I am not that big of a fan of Ash. In fact, it has been awhile since I have watched the anime, but I will say that he's not the worst out there, because he does seem to actively partake in helping people with their pokemon and caring about their welfare. In terms of him giving his pokemon away, keep in mind that most of them stay at Professor Oak's lab so he can use them any time he wants.
