I'm at 1 for all my animations right now. It's hard for me to get motivated.

I've been playing with the same characters for the last 5 years now, so I suppose making an original Flash is slightly different to making a series. Here's my step by step guide anyway.

Step 1: Write a script late at night/ early in the morning while on sugar high
Step 2: Forget about script for 6 months as you finish other animations
Step 3: Decide you want to make the animation
Step 4: Find the old script
Step 5: Combine two scripts after deciding plot is a bit weird on its own
Step 6: Gather team and record voices
Step 7: Storyboard
Step 8: Animate
Step 9: Re-record voice actors
Step 10: Bully my composer into making music
Step 11: Finish animation
Step 12: Upload to Newgrounds
Step 13: Wait for the reviews. Watch on in bewilderment as reviewers with no Flash/audio/art or any creative output of their own, slaughter what has been your baby for the last month or two.
Step 14: Repeat process

My point is that my idea of an animation process changes too much for it to be MY SOLID PROCESS you know what I mean? :P

Every movie I have different algorithms, and it basically all comes down to just making the movie instead of STEP 1, blah blah blah STEP 2, blah blah, etc.

On our current project, it goes this way.

1: Sherry writes, records, and edits the script while I'm at the night gig.
2: Working off the printout of the script, I create a storyboard.
3: Open a template of the host "Goldie Fortune" and lay in the recorded vocal track.
4: Listen to the track, insert keyframes on a separate layer to mark where stills and action occur.
5: In the day, lip sync, lip sync, lip sync.
6: During down time at the night gig, sketch stills and graphics.
7: Weekends, scan and import graphics and stills. Insert into flash.
8: Add in additional subtleties like blinking and gestures.
9: Tighten up and fine tune.
10: Create a clip for Newgrounds.

For my projects in school, it went roughly like this (though switched up slightly sometimes):

1. Ideas >>> Concept

2. Very basic script

3. Record voices for several hours with whomever I record the voices with; usually takes one or two sessions

4. Edit/clip audio files that may or may not be used (never know, and just in case!) and convert them all to WAV format.

5. Add sound to animation and animate synced to the sound.

6. Add in appropriate music choices as I go (after converting those to WAV)

7. Once section of animation is done and I'm pleased with it, I go back through and color it in, and add in a background.

8. Finish up all the animation sequences by repeating steps 5 - 7 until animation is all compiled and complete.

9. Touch up/complete the intro and ending.

10. Save it all as a new FLA file and the export it and upload!

I am still very new to animating and am relatively inexperienced, but so far this seems to be the quickest and most effective method for me. I really should start making a storyboard though, as I hear that makes things so much easier in a lot of ways, and I am a slowpoke.

1. think of some story or somethin'
2. Start drawin' 'n' recordin' characters, voices 'n' shit.
3. Slack off.
4. Don't finish the animation.
5. Wish I finished it.
6. Start another project.
7. REPEAT

It's this process that caused my projects from sometime to over ten years ago to not be finished.

Damn.

Nice, looks like loads of people work with the same process. Ive been working on a project at the moment. It's been a..determined process hehe. This is pretty broken up...

Stage 01. Cloud Idea.
Stage 02. Script Draft.
Stage 03. Script Consultation (half a dozen people.)
Stage 04. Script Redraft 2.
Stage 05. Script Final Draft.
Stage 06. Voice Actor Auditioning and hunt for actors.
Stage 07. Voices
Stage 08. Foreseen animation hurdle tests. Eg. Dynamics, collision and comp' effects.
Stage 09. Concept characters, environments, etc
Stage 09. Storyboard entire animation.
Stage 10. Model characters, texture and rig characters. Finalise templates per character.
Stage 11. Model, texture and rig props. Eg. Weapons, desk, televisions, helicopter, cars etc.
Stage 13. Model, texture, rig and light environments.
Stage 14. Thumbnail single shot, and line test.
Stage 15. Animate shot using timings and audio (if included).
Stage 16. Composite Shot.
Stage 17. Export shot as uncompressed AVI or other format.
Stage 18. Repeat process from 14 - 17 for every shot within animation.
Stage 19. Video edit animation for overall tonal consistency, with Mastered dialogue/voices.
Stage 20. Edit, adjust and include Mastered sound effects.
Stage 21. Create Credit list
Stage 22. Compose/ Add music.
Stage 23. Animation Consultation and alterations.
Stage 24. Export as uncompressed.
Stage 25. 3rd Party dedicated compression and upload/publish for client.

There's always hiccups here and there, but I get round em one way or another.
