What's so great with Crusaders?

I've been dabbling in history you see. The more I did the less I can see any glory of these people. Sure, they walk across the continent to massacre bunch of people to reclaim a sacred city in the name of God, but still, what's so special about these guys? Why don't people really see dirty secrets behind the scheme, the deception of the big players at the time,& the whole matter of the issue.
Seriously! I think the Byzantine should get the credits for their hard work, not the Crusaders.
The more I think, the more headache I get, so I guess I'll let you help me think.

Nobody really said the crusaders were Great. Religion was just used as a scapegoat.

True, but in a matter of general ideas of the people, they seems to be glorified to be heroes & stuff which I don't understand why.

Not today they're not. Maybe way back when they were seen as heroes, but if anyone sees them as heroes today, they're most likely going to be the next Norway bomber.

I was probably the only one who thought it was bad taste to name their group to those who killed innocent people for a religion.

I mean, i dont know much about the crusades but what sticks out too me is that the muslim leaders let christians and jews live in peace with muslims while the christian crusaders just went on a killing spree of non christians.

Good point, but "heroes" I mean like they are good guys & what they are doing is good, not really about killing lots of people is good. Like they are not really beeen blamed for anything much, while the Byzantine is just so underrated.

Yes they did horrible things, but they're soldiers what more they're soldiers during the time of the middle ages, you either went on crusade in an attempt to make your life better the only way you know how.

Do you think any other person at that time would have done any less than what they did? No, war is hell even today its still brutal so before we all start saying this about Islam or this about Christianity, remember at the end of the day its not God or the Crusaders that caused the violence.

To inform you, "Crusaders" are not really soldiers. Infact, they are ranging from armed rabbles to the kings in shiny armor who came voluntarily to fight. But as you knew, the rich will ALWAYS take the credits at the time (did you know that knights will trample the infantries of their own side just to confront the rival knights while they were fighting?)
