Why does feeling bad or grieving, or at least recognising that it is sad that someone has died have to infer that people have to cry? Why does it then to you seem to follow that it has to be generalised that we need to emotionally attach ourselves to every individual - rather than be able to share a grievance for a group of people?
I think someone has hit the post count.
Confucianism says (lol): "Not as you may view it but yes, I have shed tears. For more than just the loss of lives but for other, darker things."

My exact words were "It's weird to cry for random strangers", not "It's weird to feel sad about tragedies".
So, really, you agree with me if you can't muster a single tear at the thought of the holocaust.. I wish people would stop putting words in my mouth and inferring "my" beliefs. It just ends up being a large straw man.

Ugh. The petulance of "critical thinking" classes and the straw man response is that people criticise it as being illegitimate when it draws on the assumptions people have made in their own argument. You said it is weird to cry for random strangers, infers that there must be negative connotations associated with the crying - which then corresponds to the emotions of sadness (that can be expressed in the form of crying). Even from the nihilistic perspective this is a chemically acceptable thing to do. The continuity of somebody suffering, how "bad" they feel does not need to amount to any exact amount of pain to induce different. In critical thinking terms you have made a sweeping generalisation in prioritising that "crying" leads to an "unusual" or "weird" amount of sadness.
That is of course unless, people are shedding life giving tears of joy.

Sorry about the typo - "Induce different emotional responses".

Look, all I've said this entire time is that it's strange for someone to CRY (the physical act of dropping water out of their face, not the emotion of sadness) for someone they never knew nor cared to know. Like opening up the obituaries and tearing up..
Besides, this is my opinion, opinions can't be disproved.. I think green is a pretty cool color, that's why it's my aura.. So now are we going to spend an hour arguing about which color is better, blue or green? No, this is stupid.
I'm done arguing about my opinion. Peace.

Words cannot describe how much of a dick you are. Just because you're an apathetic douchebag, it doesn't mean everyone else should be.

(About the dog thing, I kind of agree about people crying about people they don't know dying)

A girl who had left my high school four years ago died and people WHO DIDN'T EVEN FUCKING KNOW HER STARTED CRYING FOR HER AND SHIT. How retarded is that?
My dog died when I was twelve and he shat himself and we got to put her down ourselves, I felt a little bit freaked out but afterwards I saw the lightness in the situation and actually LAUGHED at him shitting himself, he is a dog, he doesn't fucking care, its funny and crying over it is just fucking retarded and illogical
Its more logical not to get upset from death otherwise you WEAKEN yourself and you are WEAK.
Can somebody tell me why these days people are such pussies over other people dying?
Nah I'm pretty sure your wrong, people just don't cry for no reason. Maybe they cried because of the fear that death will one day take a friend they know. Or maybe you didn't really pay enough attention to know if those people knew her or not.
Also you can't really compare an animals death to a humans an animal cant raise a human, an animal can't express feelings on the level of a human and we see animals die all the time so of course you would grieve differently.

Have you ever seen a dyed t-shirt? It's fucking sad to see a beautiful shirt stained and ruined to look "artistic"
Wow, dude. You must really hate everyone.
It's the fact that you will never see, or talk to the person again. That's the sad part.
They mourn other people's deceases because they remind them of their own mortality, they pity themselves, not others.

I get what you mean, if you have absolutely no connection to the person, when why should you care?
Guess what? People die everyday, to cry about them all is pathetic. If I found out someone I kinda sorta knew and can barely remember their face, then why should I care or cry?
You not careing about your dog dieing in its own shit, well... thats just phycotic, and means you don't value life... Thats bad, in every sorta way.
Anyway, I get why some girl dieing is a big "Who gives a shit?" since to cry over every death would make you so depressed you would kill yourself.

Crying for strangers might seem odd, but the way I see it they're not crying for the stranger, but for themselves. It reminds them of their own mortality. Personally I'm not susceptible to this mode of thought, but I can see why some people might react to a stranger's death like that.
Also, you laughing at your dying dog could mean that you were too afraid/uncomfortable to cry (you were 12 so I imagine this is likely) so you dealt with the situation by laughing. I'm no doctor though, for all I know you could be a psychopath.
I'm back, I guess.

It may be more logical not to cry, but you have to remember that most people aren't completely logical. Our feelings and emotions can get the best of us sometimes, and they are most likely to do so when someone dies.
And to be fair, people have always cried over other people dying; it's only natural.

Personally I think it is logical to get upset when someone you know dies. Because your mind knows that you're never going to see or talk to that person every again and that is naturally a very upsetting thought.

not being sad at death = psychopath?
is that really the conclusion you're jumping to?
death is not something sad, it's inevitable
it's only our well-honed through evolution cognitive processes that cause us to fear death (for self-preservation)
the process of being sad at death is due to us being honed by million of years (the advent of the genus Homo was 2.4 millions years ago, even if Homo Sapiens Sapiens is clocking in at about 200 thousand years ago) to feel sad for the death of a fellow tribesman (because it decreases the rate of survival for you)
once you realize these processes you can easily overcome them and realize that all things come to be in accordance with nature (or Logos as Heraclitus once succinctly put it)

It makes sense that people would be upset about someone dying. But I totally see where you're coming from about making light of the situation, there's nothing wrong about laughing in situations like that, anyone who says otherwise is a dickhead that's trying to impose their own feelings onto you and thus trying to make you sad. Why be sad when you can be happy? Would the dead person want you to be sad?
