I don't have enough experience in drinking alcohol to really say anything, but my dad once made me a "Charles Dickens" - gin and hot water, which was apparently widely drunk around Charles Dickens' time and appears often in his novels. That tasted like shit.

Yeah, mixing strong drinks with water is/was pretty common. Absinthe is still supposed to be prepared that way, although I'm not sure if they actually bother. (This is where the name of the ouzo effect comes from, although in my experience, ouzo is just drunk in shots now.)

The worst alcoholic drink I've had in terms of flavour was some beer called "Artois Bock". Apparently it was/is made by Stella but it tastes like donkey shit. I worked at an off-licence and we ended up selling it all off for 5 pence a bottle.

The worst in terms of drunkenness was some Australian rum called Bundaberg. It made me actually retarded.
