That's because these two scenarios, as far as I can tell, are completely fucking different. My friend in the protests last time told me he was helplessly stuck on a bridge until four in the morning and it was freezing. I thought it was a good amount of police but the kettling just had to stop. I don't feel I've been inconsistant. That was snappy of you, Jim.

Cut the police force, they said, for the good of the country, they said.Don't you start on all of that. If I remember correctly, during the riots earlier in the year you were advocating the smashing of buildings and trying to justify it, along with slagging off the police. Now you're saying that it's the Government's fault that there are less police around and that you now think that we're better off with them rather than without them? Make your fucking mind up, idiot.
You're right, the scenarios ARE different. The point is, SO WERE THE POLICING METHODS. When your friend was caught up in the kettling that happened at the riots, he would have been amongst those causing trouble. When they're instructed to make a swift decision on how to handle a crowd, it is impossible for them to differentiate between those who're there to peacefully protest and those who're there to cause havoc, as they're all in the same fucking crowd.
Had the police this time around taken the same approach as they did then, there's a possibility that things in Tottenham wouldn't have gotten to the point they did and the copycat rioting would never have happened.
They took the softly softly approach in Tottenham because the riots were preceded by a peaceful demonstration by grieving family members, friends, and community members. Had they taken the same kettling approach there, as the riots began, they'd have been criticised for being insensitive.
You're also right about me being snappy. That's because I'm fed up with people like you who just like to pick holes in everything. The police take affirmative and heavy action in one instance in large numbers, you moan about it like they did something wrong. They don't take affirmative and heavy action and don't have the numbers in other instances and you moan about that.
