What really? So if something is getting stolen you're suppose to let it get stolen? Fuck that.

Are you speaking from a legal perspective? Have you had any legal training or experience?
I find it highly unreasonable that any jury would convict someone for defending their own home against a mob trying to break in.

You're allowed to use "reasonable and proportionate force." I think that's near enough a direct quote, so basically you can smash them up if they're in your house but you can only use lethal force if you have genuine concern that your life is at risk. Like you see a gun or a knife in their hands you're allowed to stab the fucker.

I hear they're spot on for the type of punishment you like.
When you have rioters that out number the cops you can't just write them up on charges to stop them! You have to use brute force to get them under control. You have to scare them into not wanting to continue doing what they are doing.
My country is fine. My state just beefed up our rights. We can now kill someone who is threatening our lives in our home, in our yard, etc, and not have to worry as much about being sued or punished for using deadly force.

I'm studying Law atm and yeah the force has to be "Reasonable" so basically If they have a gun you are allowed to shoot them if they have nothing you can punch them but nothing beyond restraint

If these looters came at my house with a fire bomb their brains would be relocated all over the street.

Which is odd, becuase the people who follow that law are also the people whose property is most likely to get attacked.
I'm beginning to think that our government hates us chaps...
This guy is the perfect example of someone getting shafted by your description of British law.

He kinda did kinda over-react He didn't even fire off a warning shot he just killed them whilst they posed no direct violent threat. Although I do think you shoulod have the right to defend your property you also can't just go on a rampage killing people
Greater Manchester Police are tweeting that things are now quieting down in the city centre. Really hoping it stays like that because I want to be down there on Friday. The only news that I'm waiting for now is the bus station and what not opening up again in the centre.
I suppose we Americans are simply surprised, and maybe a little shocked, by what we consider lack of security implementation and rightful force utilization(according to our standards) by the authorities.I mean if this kind of shit was happening in D.C. and outlying cities you know they would have riot police cracking some skulls, arresting.
I looked over the links people have posted about English defense law, and I must say. Maybe its time for a repeal...
Brixton has sorted itself out, what was a major spot for intense rioting last night is now chilling to some sweet jazz, hah i think that's pretty cool. Also repairs are up and going in Manchester it's quietening down, gonna risk getting flamed in 10 minutes when it kicks off again but maybe this will all be over soon.
Merseyside Police are advising people to avoid the Park Road South area in Birkenhead, where a number of vehicles are on fire.
I personally think that a person should have the right to defend their property with whatever degree of force seems necessary. If a mob tries to break into my house, I don't want to have to worry about being taken to court and charged with GBH.

I'm thinking the same thing to be honest, like I've previously said. I think we've seen the peak of all this trouble now. I think there might still be small outbursts tomorrow night, but I don't think it will be anything near as significant as we saw tonight and last night.
Hopefully these little thugs have realised that they're not achieving anything.

Yes, but the onus is on you to prove that the force used was "reasonable". What I'm saying is that I don't think you should have to prove that you were using reasonable force if your property is under threat.
It's one of the most primal instincts to defend our homes as ardently as possible. It's a slap in the face to be taken to court by someone who broke into your home.

Apparently there's been a number of shops in the town centre that have had windows smashed. Considering the points where they said that were victims of the riots, I think my mum's workplace got hit. She really shouldn't go to work tomorrow if Birkenhead has gone to hell tonight.

Why should we have to draw a line? The person breaking into your home clearly hasn't.

Damn, surely it'd be better for him to sell them on the streets rather than online. More incognito. Hopefully the guy can be tracked.
Any news from round NG member areas? No reports coming out of Birmingham. Asian communities have been fighting back against the rioters in Aston alongside the police and are apparently doing a bloody good job!
