I'm actually wondering which would be better, if they ended quickly so that this could all be over and done with, or if they continued to the point where eventually martial law got set in. But no idea how long that will take.
What's martial law?

Military takes over would pretty much be the jist of it. It's what happened to the Southern US after the Civil War.

Normally I would never think zombies were in real life, but reading a zombie book right before hearing about terrible riots in London just sorta put things together.

Of course, there's no outbreak. Just rioting. I'm sure.

I think it's a decent solution. I'd think the problem is partly to do with the fact that people just don't seem to be scared of law enforcement. Looking at the images of London from last night, it looked like it went well past the stage where tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets should have been put to use.

If anything, surly a military presence on the streets would help to intimidate rioters and hopefully make them start to back off. Our justice system is just too soft on people now.

First siren of the night just went past!

But seriously I doubt there's going to be much trouble in London tonight. I hope all you guys from Birmingham, Manchester, Croydon, etc are all staying safe.

I am too. Unfortunately, some assholes on youtube are just spamming ads and reposted videos so any actual videos of the riot right now are very hard to find.

In Gloucester it seems like the police are preparing but no scene of riots yet.

The police are doing a fantastic job down here in Manchester. While obviously we're still suffering from riots, the police are putting their plans into place and taking no messing around. They're keeping the crowds moving and not allowing them to form. As i said before, we're still suffering from riots, but we're not going through what London or T/ham suffered last night.... As of yet.

Either way a clean up has been organised for tomorrow morning at 9am in Piccadily gardens, and I myself am hoping to get myself down there and help clean up.

However, as I'm viewing now on the news, the police are playing a game of "Cat and Mouse" however, the rioters have just made their way into the Arndale centre. However they've started barricading roads, yet what the rioters are doing, they're running up a road, seeing the police, and then splitting and going down side-streets.

They go to breach a shop, the police come, and then they go and breach another store. It's a dangerous game, but the police are doing well in the sense that they're blocking the rioters and chasing them in the hope they'll eventually just run off.

But the night is still young. It's been described as a "War Zone".

Just been down to Manchester City centre.

Its pretty quiet ATM, I couldn't get to the main action because of police blocks unless i left my car but fuck that if it gets smashed id have been pissed.

You can feel it in the air though, full off lads all in black and hardly no police from what i saw.

From where i was saw atleast 60 lads walking into the centre saw like 3 police car, 4 riot vans, 2 police helicopters, few fire engines. You can see the main action on BBC News

The police are blocking off the wrong roads :\ the main routes into the centre are blocked at the bottom instead of the top poeple can walk in then just jump down all the ally ways, not doing a good job.

I got a few pictures but there all SHIT damn iPhone4 failed me lol hard to get a picture while driving though and riot vans speeding past.

If its carrying on tomorrow ill go again see if i can get better pictures

I guess this doesn't apply so much now as other cities are involved with the mindless looting but I saw it and thought yeah.

Nothing hit Coventry whilst I was out, so I'm still safe! I've got knives within reach of my bed though, just in case.

would that his opinion was relevant to the reason behind the riots

Well twi, people don't riot for fun. People riot because they are pissed off at things that are out of their direct control, like government. There are a great deal many things wrong with both the US and UK governments that people will riot for. Treatnebt of fathers, tuition rises, police brutality, war portests, etc. Etc. Its a melting pot of reasons to riot against a government that is disliked by many people.

Going by what these idiot rioters the BBC have been interviewing say, they actually are rioting for fun. They've been saying that they're rioting because they can get away with it and see it as a way to get free items.

Maybe the riots in London originally had some 'valid' reason, but the riots in other cities consist people hopping on a bandwagon because they think they're going to get away with it.

They won't bring the army in until they really have to. If they bring the army in then Cameron knows he's for it. He'll get so much bad press for not having things under control. Furthermore, the army is not seen as a very 'British' way of doing things.
