Yes we are idiots. It's almost funny because whats makes us idiots is us being just too smart for our own good.
If you think killing the rioters is a necessary evil, so be it.
I'd like to think there'd be alternatives for your country to utilize, it seems like they're not as responsive as they ought to be, but I might be wrong on that.
Seriously though, the rioters' actions are done in vain, and I hope the scum is dealt with before things get any worse.
Also, your country doesn't look bad. Every country has dumb people who do dumb shit.
Only in England

I agree that killing them would likely be needed. They won't stop on their own. But how many would be killed? I'm not worried about taking out people or ending their lives -- they deserve it. I just worry if it would escalate the problem or cause serious repercussion.
If someone were to take it serious enough, it could even cause a small revolt
So anyway, excuse my ignorance on the subject, but I can't seem to find a sturdy reason as to why these riots broke out. Is it still because some dude was shooting at the authorities, or something? I don't get it.

just roll with it nerd

Mark Duggan was shot and killed by the police after they were tailing him and people apparently aren't happy about a gangster involved in crime and drugs being shot dead. Hence the original riot.

Not really suggesting that it's necessary, mostly saying that everyone who lives in the regions affected by the destruction have more of a right/ability to determine if its a necessary course of action.
I'm more in the 'use excessive non-lethal force' realm of thinking, but US opinion means fuck all
One can never truly predict the consequences of an action, but this isn't a revolt against an oppressive regime, so it seems like the people involved are more in it for the loot/rush/oppurtunity of the moment.
Break a few legs and demobilize the movement.
The army could've already suppress these rioters, what is Britain waiting for? Dead innocent civilians?

Even if something was a huge outcry, rioting is just an excuse to wreak havoc. Of course, not everyone in a protest/riot are the ones destroying shit, but they are gladly sitting by watching others do so. This is just people who generally want to cause hurt and pain for others, reasoning for doing so, or CHANCE to do so, since chances of being caught are a lot lower during a riot.
I think groups that riot and destroy more than what caused it originally should be immediately recognized as a terrorist and immediate mutiny from their country. If they don't have respect for their country, they should loose citizenship. That or being recognized as a terrorist should get them shot.
I mean hell, the only reason they continue without the fear of death is because they know that the law will do everything they can first without lethal force. If they just went in and took out a few people it would calm down. The idea of dying for it would make them loose interest....hopefully......
I don't know...

People have to remember that beyond this daily mail-like view that DEY SHUD BE SHOT this is sparking up in the poorest areas of the country, where youth employment is at its highest. I certainly don't agree with the riots, and I fear that because of them everyone will forget that the police shot a guy a short while ago. However, to say that they should be shot? Don't make me laugh. This goes a lot deeper.

The moment the rioters become hostile the police should be able to start hitting shit, basically. They need to start breaking knees and making arrests. Once they make arrests left and right, then the rioters will figure out they aren't invincible.
While I agree with this, they've already run out of cells.
some people said : why did this happen?
It's not about a north london drug dealer. It was never about a north london drug dealer. This is lower class teenagers who are angry about class disparity, in the same way that most riots end up. They're angry about being seemingly abandoned by the upper class and the bourgeoisie, as cuts get steeper and steeper in a time where everyone is struggling to live anyway. These riots were inevitable, the dealer incident was just the straw that broke the camel's back in tottenham, and then suddenly everything everywhere
Thankfully they've not come through here.
Likely because my area isn't flooded with minorities and hooded pricks.
Some chap was on Sky earlier talking about the police ending up more scared of being punished in court than physically injured by these morons. So you can thank our assbackward justice system for our officers standing by and watching.
I hope they're proud of burning down century old buildings, looting baby stores and throwing the clothes into trees and causing massive overall damage to their own neighbourhood for the sake of a new tv and enough money for a night out.
And now the England/Holland match has been canned. Fuck these oxygen thieves.

TheAmazingAtheist pointed out that whenever an incident like an uncalled-for police shooting happens in a European country, especially England, there's always a big outrage and riots occur. He also pointed out that in the US this never happens because we're too afraid to do anything to make a difference. I don't encourage riots, but he seems to, and I do agree with him on the fact that Americans just forget about police brutality after a while and don't resort to rioting, or even protests. Kind of interesting how Europeans take more action.
So glad Australia doesn't get this shit (we will though when Melbourne and Sydney become bigger.)
Those damn Chavs.
Also I am lollercoasting at the idiots who are going to get arrested for flaunting their phat l00t on Facebook.

I only heard about this yesterday I have been ill all weekend and I find it extremely disappointing, that a protest can then turn into a riot and then spread across the country. I hope this ends quickly and peacefully.

Yeah but in this case the rioters aren't "protesting" anything; they're going out and commiting a wave of mindless violence and theft. It's an excuse for a large number of people to go out and rob businesses.
There isn't even a motive for this riot anymore. Just scumbags who want to be criminals as they now have the opportunity to do so with a lower chance of being arrested.
Hah, I've been to London and this doesn't surprise me too much. London is a fucking shithole and so is England (okay England isn't that bad actually, but I find it boring and full of unemployed lower class depressed chavs)
Oh yeah and I agree that the police are being a bit incompetent and need to sort this out. Also its funny how people distrust the government in England so much (I don't know myself how bad their government is but its still pretty funny.)
Just chillin'
David Cameron is an idiot. He's putting 16,000 police officers on the streets of London, but he'd have to get them from other cities, which, of course, means there's no police in other cities.
I can see Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and Coventry falling tonight.
Things are never meant to be easy. Everything is a challenge to someone.
Disgraceful. As these riots are mainly comprised of the lower classes, all they are doing is further endangering their own futures, bot in terms of being arrested, and also in the idea that after these riots, the government will have to do something, which could be trying to stop this happening again by putting more money into lower class neighbourhoods, but then that idea would likely be shot down by the general public, as they have shown exactly what the middle and upper classes feared of them, that all lower class people are hooligans. In this way, I think that any attempt to give them more money, the public would not like at all, despite it being the best preventative measure to stop all this happening again.
Doesn't help that a vast majority of politicians are upper and middle class.

To any of you UK users out there: What would the police do about rioters attacking the parliament or whatever your main government building is?

Likely get riot police to stop them gaining entry. If they actually got in, they would probably try pretty hard to get them out.

I doubt they would really be that ignorant and stupid. If it started attacking places like Parliament or the Palace then force would defiantly start being used, and the army would be pulled in. That would effectively start becoming treason. I'm pretty sure no one is stupid enough to do that even the pathetic people in the streets.

I only moved out of Ealing last summer so you can imagine my surprise to find the state that it's now and I am totally disgusted that out of all places it hit there. Ealing isn't the place I'd expect to find this low level of behaviour.
It devastates me to be british.

I doubt they would be that stupid. The houses of parliament are surrounded by large iron barricades with armed police outside, as is Buckingham palace and Downing Street. If anyone tried to force entry they would likely be shot.
I have a question
If I firmly believe that if these people need to die because they have looted, rioted (in spacific) and caused a bad name for something... I also believe the same for the canadian riot in vancouver,
I don't have any experience in riots and have not been touched by one...
The idea that these people are not bringing their problems to the right people, and if the wrong people are in the wrong places for being ableto deal with issues concerning the genral public, thee peoplneed to be ousted..
Filters should be killed, they should use political sanctions and examples in them selves to sway their governemts, while if the government is not right then it should be taken over peacefully through reform...
Where does that put me on a political scale?

I'm actually kind of worried since I know a few people who are close friends who live in Wavertree, Liverpool. Which is RIGHT next to Toxteth, the area all the small Liverpool riots have been going on at. If it escalates, there's a chance Wavertree might get hit.
