Hey all,

am bored so thought I'd stop lurking for once and post some art up for your viewing pleasure/critique expertise.

Basically, am trying out a new (quick) colouring system - comic book style colouring where you flat in colours and then use shadow tones and highlights to give depth and shape ... anyone know any ways to speed the "flatting" bit up?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers,

-lemony

I was wondering the exact same thing!

How do you go about doing yours?
I just flatten from back to front and dont worry too much about keeping tight. But once I start moving forward through space I start making my selections tighter and tighter.
I've also tried front to front but it was pretty much the same thing, and either one of them still take a bit of time to get done.

Pretty much the same as you, by the sounds of things. I spend a bit of time cleaning up sections and fiddling with tones once I've laid on highlights, but your method seemed to make the most sense to me.

Never heard of front to front. How does that one work?

Nice lineart by the way (:

Looks cool. First the sun hitting her skin should be a different color. I'm just not feeling the yellow type color.

The clouds look exceptionally good.

The sun looks like you took a paint brush from something like GIMP that had a blur and made a big circle.

The feather is detailed and looks normal.

You made it seems like her hair is actually real by adding the black lines through the hair.

4/5 or 9/10 whatever you prefer.

heh, yeah. I was pretty sloppy with the background. Hence the cruddy circle sun. You got me.

Still feeling my way a bit with colour schemes. You're right. The yellow does make this all feel a little ... flat now that I look at it. May do something about that, or at least have noted it for next time. Glad you like the hair though!

Thanks for the feedback

Sorry for being ingocnito for a bit. Working on a comic which is taking up a lot of my time. Here's a preview of some of the artwork for your trouble.

More sketches and things to come, as I have been scribbling busily.

Working on a print you guys (of Ophelia FYI - Hamlet y'all). Just thought I'd post a preview detail as I'd be interested to hear what you think.

There are breasts. But she's kind of, er, drowned at this point in the story. So I wouldn't say they're sexy breasts. IMHO.

Afternoon all.

Been a while. Been doodling. Here's one from a few weeks ago. Quite pleased with the muscling on the chest. Less pleased with the man's legs. Generally amusing myself with my own jokes.

I think I saw it on the top shelf, gathering dust.
At least you cleaned some dust off this thread.

Quick and dirty screencap from the latest one-shot story I'm working on. I've always thought Cilophyte girls were kind of cool. So now I'm making a comic about one.

So many comics @_@

I was looking at the first picture on this thread, and I have a small suggestion. Instead of using white for the sun use a really light yellow green, it's the color that human eyes are most sensitive to, and it will contrast the blue background.

Brilliant suggestion there. Thank you! Colour theory is one of these things I'm really trying to get my head around properly ... it's definitely tougher than expected.

Yeah I actually learned that in physics class last term.
red has the lowest wavelenth,
violet has the highest,
yellow-green is in the center of the visible spectum; people's eyes are most sensitive to it.

Also blue's opposite on the color wheel is orange, and yellow-green if faily close to it.

Yeah, we see lots of tits. Sometimes it's an old fat naked guy. I guess you might find that less appealing.

WIP: Study of a princess with some frogs. Because clearly the main part of being a princess is wearing a stupid shiny hat and kissing amphibians all day long.

Inks before colour tests, etc.
