ok, because we're having a serious discussion here, and i'm not on a website where i'll get trolled the fuck out of for asking; what's the appeal of the show to you?
i honestly can't see why so many people all over the place are in love with the show yet can't seem to figure out a reason why. what's so great about a cartoon aimed at little girls, from your perspective?

It's difficult to explain, and it appears to be a love/hate sort of thing. People who enjoyed watching Powerpuff Girls or Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends enjoy this show because it is of the same nature. It is also a departure from the previous MLP series and it doesn't take itself seriously and has enough well-crafted jokes to keep an adult audience entertained. Or as someone else put it:

It's awesome
It's awesome
It's awesome
It's awesome
It's awesome
It's awesome
The animation is FANTASTIC.

That's pretty much it for me. Although it is a show aimed at little girls it doesn't talk down to that audience or pushy the stereotypical girly themes in their faces 24/7 like what Barbie does. It is a show that can work for any and all ages as well as any gender to be honest.

For me I love animation and when I heard about this show I had the same thoughts of "girly show gonna suck, people follow it because it's a meme" however I was sorely wrong. For a show based on "My Little Pony" there is a lot of effort put into it and that's what surprises me yet at the same time makes me like about it. It is a moral show though in other words it teaches kids something at the end of it, but the journey to the moral is the fun part.

One particular episode is the sleepover episode which can be found in just about every single girl show. This episode though seems to parody sleepovers more than anything though when you get down to it.

Also the writing is wonderful and the characters are memorable and enjoyable. As a cartoon show and animation in general it's an all-around great show.

I'm not a fanatic over anypony, I really like them all nearly the same. Pinkie is really awesome, and quite funny, in my opinion, I enjoy her as a character a lot. I do hope they develop her more though, more episodes like Party of One or Griffon the Brush Off would be awesome.

Wisdom

Pretty much this, I've explained countless times before, so I'll do it again but streamline it. I like the show because of:

Great animation
Great characters
Great writing
Amazing voice acting
Good humor

And the general nature and art style of the show tends to brighten my day, which is also a plus. It's really not too hard to believe that a kid's show can have these elements, the team behind the show really has put a lot of effort into it, and it has certainly paid off. It's a great show, and cartoon.

Is this thread proof enough to the moderators that we can have serious discussions about a show without picture spamming? Can we please have a Club in the Club and Crew Forum so those who don't like the show in General will stop complaining?

A great example is Rarity.
She's the show's character who has the girly part of being into fashion. She does have a streak of vanity (she has her moments of "Oh no, my hair"), but she kicks a manticore in the face. She is really professional about it and actually enjoyable as a character. Most girly shows would turn fashion into such a passion that that's the only thing the character talks about and make the character so effeminate that it bugs you greatly.

It does kind of saddens me that party of one and stuff like cupcakes turn Pinkie into an icon of insanity and gae Pinkamena a violent undertone.
I did like the fact that she was being so stubborn, especially near the end, that she just jumped to crazy conclusions over the obvious and stuck with those.

That's part of her character though... she has to be spontanious, with a few tweeks she would not be as memorable of a character... pinky is suppost to represent fun, fan fiction depicts her as a pony that is off the wall crazy, cute and cuddely or batshit insane/fun
analyzing the responds of the fans proves that the character seas correctly made because many of them are based off of the idea of funny things she does,
in many ways she's the adhd character of the show... griffen brush off.. she gets to the clouds with a trampoline and then a bunch of baloons and then a flying pony machine, its solely based off the idea of strange wacky and fun, its also why she has the character roll of singing about things,
Psychologically speaking she is the pony that will speak to the youngest part of the audience because she winds, is pink, is depicted as cute and semi fluffy with her tail, and holds a grudge for a full span of 4 seconds, she will also show love for anyone that will get along with her, or have fun with her or join her parties

Pinkie Pie is my favorite Pony and one of my two favorite characters. The second one being Spike. I like Pinkie Pie because she reminds me of one of my friends who bakes goodies, likes to throw parties, and is completely random and constantly happy most of the time and enjoys laughing. That's one reason.

The other is how random Pinkie Pie can be at times which I find hilarious.

I tried to watch Steven Seagal movies, but then I punched a cat in the face, so I tend to not do that anymore.
I am the proud owner of the Die Hard quadrillogy, though.

How many times have you guys watched the show? I've watched all the episodes 3 times now and I'm still not bored of the show. I can't pick a favourite episode either as there are too many contenders.

Btw, did anyone find the CMC episodes less enjoyable then the rest?

Why yes, that IS a large collection of 1998 "Smithy's Favourite Times" Licenced Cereal Pop Toys!

I know, but I would have to say Winter Wrap-Up or Feeling Pinkie Keen.

Yeah some I like others I don't so it's hit and miss for me, but overall they're all enjoyable.

Hmm, to me probably Swarm of the Century. Pinkie has the best moments in there. Applebuck Season is also pretty high on my list.

Btw, did anyone find the CMC episodes less enjoyable then the rest?

Actually no. The worst episode in my opinion is the second one. Each pony gets to show off her element of harmony. But it's like really forced and feels so sappy. Nightmare Moon as a villain has potential, but the second episode does confirm her as a little girl's villain. Logical in the context of the show, but not so desirable to watch outside the target audience.

Anyone ever seen these parodies?

I have watched several episode smany times so far 5 or 6 maybe, some of them I have still only watched once but I have re watched a lot of them so far. It's always good when you pick up on things you didn't notice the first time. Like on the first episode Applebloom Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell cower next to each other when Nightmare Moon comes. Which originally didn't seem like anything but after all the CMC episodes it's nice seeing the three of them there.

Btw, did anyone find the CMC episodes less enjoyable then the rest?

No I loved the Cutie Mark Crusaders. They are sort of like Pinkie Pie with the attitude of the 3, even with Sweetie Bell being serious a lot of the time they still end up doing stupidly over the top things in their crusade. I also love how cute they are in general and how they react and reply to each other, it still has the same level of attitudes as the older ponies with how they see each other and act when one of them does something strange etc. I also think all of their characters work well especially when together.

At 8/5/11 03:14 AM, RubberTrucky wrote: It does kind of saddens me that party of one and stuff like cupcakes turn Pinkie into an icon of insanity and gae Pinkamena a violent undertone.

You don't need to worry about the way Cupcakes and the like show her, as there is far more fiction and art made with her in the cute happy way than the darker way. Personally I love her darker side as I love characters who have multiple sides to their personality. But with that said I still don't put it in to episodes and the like, only to fanfiction. Just keep fan made things and the real thing apart and theres no problem with it. People who love shows will always try to find things that will make it more enjoyable for them, many people like the idea of Pinkie Pie having this insane side to her and by thinking of her like that they can enjoy the show more. So just believe whatever makes her more enjoyable for you, that's what they are doing to.
there's fun stuff made about it also.

Oh there's a comic I haven't read. I like the angry look on Pinkie. (yeah, I did notice there were 2.

Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the few people who read Cupcakes and found it a decent read. It's more the fact that I see a lot of people portraying Pinkie as criminally insane afterwards. I've read quite some freaky fanfics that desperately wants to copy cupcakes in some way, but don't really do it right.

Also these things.

Also, for Fluttershy fans...

I've read the Cupcakes fanfiction and I thought it was garbage. It was over the top and out of character. It was all just details of gore.

Anyway I've made my own fanmade Pony Shrug pictures. I'm posting them here. I plan on making more.

I would think it is, honestly. 10 pages, and pretty much no spamming, and not very inflammatory posts, I don't know why the mods don't realize allowing a MLP crew would benefit everyone.

At 8/5/11 04:39 AM, WeirdJamFace wrote: Btw, did anyone find the CMC episodes less enjoyable then the rest?

I kind of did. While I still kind of liked them, I didn't like the nearly as much as the rest of the season, though this may be because all three of them were pretty close together. It would've been nice if they could've spread them out a bit more, but I try not to complain too much.

While they're fairly enjoyable, they're not nearly as enjoyable as the rest. I actually would've rather seen more episodes focused on an individual member of the mane six rather than more CMC episodes. Like Applejack, she only got one episode, which I thought was kinda lame. Everyone else in the mane cast got at least two. Plus the CMC episodes are the ones that really make it feel like a kids show, not that I really mind that, but that feeling is still there. At least for me.

That's what I've heard, I personally have never read Cupcakes, funnily enough. It doesnt really sound appealing at all. I actually like some grim dark once in a while, but it's not something I really want to crossover with MLP. As far as just straight explicit gore, that's just dumb, in my opinion. It's not scary or anything, just unpleasant and unnecessary.
