'Tis a shame. I've actually never been one to include images in my posts specifically on NG unless it was related to something in my post, and I needed to show an example or something. I mean I can see why people would be annoyed with it; but the silly thing is that you're right, people only get annoyed with it when someone posts MLP, when someone posts something else, no one gives a shit. It's really biased, and dumb.

Yep, maybe with this behavior the mods may reconsider? At least, I hope so.

Same, I think its mostly as they gave up though a few pages ago. But hopefully its because they understand we just want to talk about it in a nice normal way.

oh I loved how you used" flank" in your post, made me chuckle <D

Started doing that a lot lately, thats deviant art and the like for you.

At 8/2/11 04:12 AM, Makeshift wrote: Maybe because everyone feels the need to put it in their sigs, post pictures from it, and just talk about it nonstop. People can like a show, but why does everyone feel the need to flaunt their love for this one?

Because there is a thread made about it. We don't talk about it "nonstop" if there isn't a reason to, this thread was made for a "serious discussion" about the show. Now you are saying we shouldn't be talking about it in here? It's the entire reason why this thread was made. If you don't want to join in with this thread then don't, you aren't obliged to look at and post in every thread on this forum. Infact you are meant to avoid threads you have no personal care about the subject of to avoid annoying people that do and to lower spamming.

Also because it seems ridiculous that anyone who isn't my 8 year old sister would like it... and she doesn't even like it anymore. She watched it when she was 5 and now she probably thinks it's stupid. It's not a show made for people our age or even our gender and if people really enjoy it, they are very... unique people. I decided to watch some of it because of this shit floating around and it was just like all the other stupid tv shows made for children that I've seen. Why doesn't anyone that likes MLP like any other shows like it?

If you are wanting to join in with this thread, read the posts, they explain.

There also aren't any clubs for tv shows on here that I have seen. TV show threads are usually just a thread in the General forum.

qite a few like the before listed Lost and Doctor Who.

It is a meme. I don't believe the people who say they enjoy it. Especially when they have a sig with ponies and another meme in it. "Haters Gonna Hate". It was also primarily spread on 4chan.

My signature was a gift, and I'm not going to get rid of it just because someone isn't happy with it. It also tells the truth that people will hate stuff and we accept that.

I don't see the problem with this, people have sigs that reflect their interests all the time, infact most sigs do this, not all of them, but the vast majority do. MLP shouldn't be any different

post pictures from it,

I have not posted one picture from MLP on NG. I honestly haven't even seen much spamming of MLP on this site, to be honest. I will agree though that picture spamming can be annoying, but that's with anything, whether it's MLP or not shouldn't matter.

and just talk about it nonstop.

I only talk about it when someone brings it up, or with people who also enjoy the show. I don't agree with shoving interests in peoples faces. I can see why someone would be fucking annoyed if some guy wouldn't shut the fuck up about something he liked, in this case, ponies. Sadly, a decent chunk of the fandom seems to feel as if they need to talk about it all of the time, and that they need to "convert" people. It's just a show for Christ's sake.

People can like a show, but why does everyone feel the need to flaunt their love for this one?

Again, I don't do this, I just show appreciation for something I like. In regards to other fans, it's simply because for some reason they feel that way, I can't really explain it. However I CAN say these particular people would probably flaunt over anything they like, not just MLP

Also because it seems ridiculous that anyone who isn't my 8 year old sister would like it... and she doesn't even like it anymore.

If you like cartoons, I don't see why you wouldn't like Friendship is Magic. It has great characters, voice acting, animation, humor, and is generally enjoyable to watch despite it's target audience and purpose.

She watched it when she was 5 and now she probably thinks it's stupid.

Friendship is Magic (Generation 4 MLP) is vastly different from the previous generations.

It's not a show made for people our age or even our gender and if people really enjoy it, they are very... unique people.

Why, because they like something out of their target demographic?

I decided to watch some of it because of this shit floating around and it was just like all the other stupid tv shows made for children that I've seen. Why doesn't anyone that likes MLP like any other shows like it?

Like what shows? I particularly like cartoons like Spongebob, Flapjack, Chowder, and Adventure time.

I also like loads of different media too, mind you.

There also aren't any clubs for tv shows on here that I have seen. TV show threads are usually just a thread in the General forum.

Doctor Who crew is a good example.

It is a meme. I don't believe the people who say they enjoy it. Especially when they have a sig with ponies and another meme in it. "Haters Gonna Hate". It was also primarily spread on 4chan.

I legitimately enjoy the show for the reasons I stated above, it tends to brighten my day, and yes I'm completely serious when I saw I like My Little Pony: Friendship is magic.

That said, I don't feel the need to really tell everyone about it... but It's really not that far fetched to like something aimed out of your target demographic.

The people that hate the Brony fad make a big deal of bronies and just make it more popular and talked about.

It seems hating MLP is more of a "fad" than the fans of the show are.

Pretty much, if people wanted the "fad" to "die", they wouldn't acknowledge it at all.

You know, reading the title of this thread, you would think that we would actually be talking about the show, but it seems to be purely about the fandom itself, rather than the show that built it. :P

i don't feel like sifting through 6 pages of this topic to develop a reasonable answer so I'm just going to ask.

do you guys genuinely like MLP rather than going along with it because lately it's become sort of a 'fad'?
if yes, what parts do you like about it? be honest.

That's fair I guess.

Yes, I do genuinely, 100%, legitimately like My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

I've already said this a lot, but anyway, I like the show because of the characters, animation, voice acting, humor, and because it generally brightens my day. All of those elements to me, make it out to be a good cartoon, though that isn't hard by today's standards, it's a rather fresh breath of air to a lot of the stuff that has been airing lately.

There isn't much else to say, really. I'm not sure why you would just claim to like it because everyone else does, considering those who DO like it just get generally ridiculed for it. I'm not sure why someone would think liking MLP makes you "edgy".

Far from it, if anything it just outcasts us for liking it which gets annoying.

It is always annoying when we need to stand up and explain how we actually like the show. Really, no other fanbase anywhere that I know of has to do this...

I agree, but it's kinda to be expected, as something "far out" as MLP would raise quite a few eyebrows at first glance. What's more annoying is people making very biased judgements about the show, and those who like it. Just because "It's a kid's show."

That's understandable, and I agree, it's fairly weird. I have no doubt that a fair share of people claim to like it because it's popular, or just like the meme part of it (image macros, etc). Why you would do that, I'm not really sure.

It is silly that people who like Spongebob and the like can say that this show is stupid and childish etc, when really entertainment wise they fit the same field of good cartoons. But of course one is about ponies thus can't possibly be good. Don't ever remember anyone complaining about people liking spongebob.
Also I've openly stated my love for other cartoons a lot, Fairly Odd Parents is one I talk about liking a lot, yet not once has anyone said anything bad about me liking that either. Really, how is liking these cartoons different from liking MLP? The difference is that it teaches morals better and more friendship in it and general niceness and happiness, and frankly it has more character development than a lot of shows out there that end exactly the same after each episode. So either people have a problem with happy things or have a problem with good things like character development, which to be honest I don't see how that could ever be a bad thing.

There are people who just plain like memes, and the image with text on it etc are memes yes, but its annoying when people confuse them with bronies. Or when they claim to love the show themselves when all they do is spam the image and don't care with talking about the show.
People just need to learn that theres 2 parts, theres the show and the meme, and they aren't the same.

If someone did say that, that would be pretty hilarious. Shows like Spongebob definitely fit in the same field, and as far as I'm concerned they also fit the same demographic as MLP.

But of course one is about ponies thus can't possibly be good. Don't ever remember anyone complaining about people liking spongebob.

I'm sure some people have, naturally but it's nothing like the complaining about people liking MLP. I'm going to guess that it's because Spongebob didn't explode, and build up a massive fanbase over the internet, thus it didn't draw a whole bunch of attention to itself.

If you took the elements of Friendship is Magic, and put it in a whole new setting with new, non-pony characters, no one would bitch about it at all.

Also I've openly stated my love for other cartoons a lot, Fairly Odd Parents is one I talk about liking a lot, yet not once has anyone said anything bad about me liking that either. Really, how is liking these cartoons different from liking MLP? The difference is that it teaches morals better and more friendship in it and general niceness and happiness,

There really is no difference in terms of liking them, which is the funny thing. It's just MLP has a huge vocal following, and those other ones don't, plus the whole moral stuff apparently puts a lot of people off, which I suppose I can see why, but that's no reason to spite a show, and it's fan base.

and frankly it has more character development than a lot of shows out there that end exactly the same after each episode. So either people have a problem with happy things or have a problem with good things like character development, which to be honest I don't see how that could ever be a bad thing.

I think it's a mix of an overload of "happy", and just the shows nature in general. Not to mention MLP's past history, and the general hate towards the show, and the fans seem to put a lot of people off from it.

The funny part about this, is that people are judging the show based on everything, but the show itself.

People just need to learn that theres 2 parts, theres the show and the meme, and they aren't the same.

I agree, and while I find the meme funny at times, I'm all for the show as well.

I can laugh at the stereotypes portrayed on there. I can laugh less if people use the flash to fuel their hate against a community.
It's a bit like a racist joke. I can laugh at those, some are funny. But if it makes people say "Yeah, black people are a bunch of no good a-holes that need to go back to Africa", I can laugh less at it.
I wonder if Spaz made the flash for humour or just to shit a group of people out....

Partially true, I agree. I love it all the more for the community. It takes itself serious enough to actually make a stand. Ponychan for example, has come into existence because ponies were banned on 4chan, is still very much active after 6 months and stay clear of spamming pony porn and whatever. Equestria Daily still gets a lot of hits and has a lot of daily updates. I think it's strong enough to last till season 2, even if it were to die down a little.
On the other hand, most bronies still see the show as a funny hobby. hence a lot of comedy and self-humour seeps into the fan-art and fan-comics.

Personally, i see the 'brony' community on par with my view on the NG community, just that there's a common topic everybody interests in.

Definitely needs a flash on all the animation shortcuts and errors the show has and some of the more ridiculous plot points.

The thing is, which I might reckon you already know, most people who hate the show base their opinions on the people who do watch it, the fans. The show might be fantastic, and from my own opinion of the show, it looks colorful and well written, despite never watching the show myself. It's just that the antics of many fans who go out of their way to force the show into our lives and call themselves 'Bronies' drives the show further away from an eager watcher. I would watch it myself, but from the way I see people act online about it, I keep my distance.

About the pictures, yes, they are cute, but when people start putting adult terms and internet slang in there to infuriate someone, things get out of hand. If this is a show about love and acceptance/tolerance, the fans seem hypocritical of those values.

Signatures are perfectly fine, as they tell a little about yourself and what you like. So you like ponies? Go ahead and put it in your sig, as that is what you like.

Incorrect, people base their opinions on what some peoples opinions of the show was and they all follow in suit. If you actually pay attention lately you would notice how many of us on here actually post better than most other users do and whenever in threads like these keep to the discussion rather than derail it. Everyone focuses on what they want to focus on rather than what is really happening. Many people would say absolutely nothing to any of our posts in here, like you currently are completely disregarding the last few pages with your comment. Then as soon as we post a picture suddenly everyone takes note.

Even more proof you aren't reading posts, the meme isn't the show and isn't what bronies go on about. We can enjoy the meme yes as it's a meme it's meant to be enjoyed. That doesn't mean we say that is the love and tolerance as it's saying stuff like "u mad", it doesn't take a good mind to realize that posts like that are for fun, you know fun right? the thing ALL OTHER USERS are allowed to do and not be commented on.

Why are you being so hostile? I said nothing about the 'meme' before, and I know the posts are for fun. However, when that fun is derived from the discomfort and anger of others, that is when things get out of hand.

Why are you being so hostile? I said nothing about the 'meme' before, and I know the posts are for fun. However, when that fun is derived from the discomfort and anger of others, that is when things get out of hand.

I totally respect you about this. I agree 'bronies' should also get their panties less in a twist.
As images are concerned, and it's been mentioned several times already, I can get it seems annoying. But it's simply the same as all other pictures. People use them for trolling or just for fun. Prsonally, I'd say that you must dislike use of reaction macros intead of just blaming it on 'bronies'.

Brony community is also there for great projects like 'Fighting is Magic' and PMV's and fanart, which on itself has some very good entertainment value. Heck, it even has charity projects. Depite a few bvad things, the fanbase has overall worked for betterment.

Just a little suggestion here: how about instead of debating the legitimacy of the fandom, how about we just talk about the show?

Fine. What's everybody's favourite pony and why?

Aside from the classic every single one.

For those more fanon-savvy, what's your favourite BG pony and why?

How exactly am I being hostile, seriously people always pick on whatever they can get their hands on whenever we post.

We keep trying to before people force it to be about if its true or not, oh we lost all the haters in this thread? No they just arent being as openly hating and instead force us to have to defend ourselves. Very sad that no one can allow us just to be able to talk to each other anymore.

Rainbow Dash, I love her personality and even though she doesn't have a lot on common with me like Fluttershy does, I just find her incredibly interesting and always fun, kind of like the me I want to be.

Lyra is mine, I love her and Bon-bon. I do like to think that they planned those two to be together as often as they were because they have a close relationship. At least thats how its hinted at and I like to think its true.

think of it like this..
we are not hostile... we are just sitting around a campfire with a couple of drinks, talking about what we passionately love, and a bunch of assholes in the campsite next to us are screaming their heads off about ponies...
us sitting out our little fire have had far more experience with it so we lay back, take a sip, and look at each other with a slight of disappointment..

bronies are never hostile... we will argue.. but we are not about to go ape, rage, post ponies and spam :/
...
or unless you feed us bad oats.. im not partial to bad oats
