I live in Texas, and most of the schools around me are having their budgets slashed. My town is building a new high school, but doesn't have enough money to finish it. Yet, we built a new two million dollar football stadium a few years ago. So this new high school is just sitting there and serving as a ninth grade center for now. The sinks in the bathrooms and such are already falling apart from the cheap construction. It's going to be finished because our one high school is completely overcrowded, but from what I heard that's going to eat up a large portion of our town's school budget.
At my high school, almost all of the language and art classes are getting cut or removed completely. Half of the electives that I signed up for last year don't exist anymore, including some independent study classes that I was hoping to take.
What's happening where you live?

Over the few years I was going to my high school I noticed each year that they tended to cut off a couple of classes due to a lack of students going to them. I think I was probably in one of the last classes for teaching how to make clothes too. Was a fun class though. That and they cut a couple of extra art and language related classes I hear.
We cut our Latin Class.
Other than that my school doesn't have that much TO cut.
They do miraculously have funds for Football, Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, etc. But who needs academia anyways?
I put the BS in BBS.
The only thing that's happened in my school (well, the one i just graduated from) is that the more expensive electived (photography, web design...) were combined into one big elective.
Can you feel it mister Krabs?

The school I went to cut French classes the second year I was there and right when I wished to sign up for it.

Ironic isn't it? They don't have a budget to keep some classes going but they always have a budget to buy new sports equipment and junk. Then again, cheerleaders are cool to watch I guess.
My early college school was almost shut down completely. Good thing it didn't because this is the only way I can get any college hours.

I fucking hate that giant new football stadium at our school. Sports shouldn't be in public school, it's an enormous waste of money.

Luckily our AP and college classes seem to be the only thing besides sports that aren't about to get cut. It's still a shame that half of our electives were thrown out for a football stadium.
The special education funding at my school(if I still go there this year) is getting cut, so no more DS classes. Which is a shame, because even with the same curriculum, they brought my grades up enormously.

Hard to argue that but it does draw in people to watch them and their children play the sport. Which in turn I think some of the money made from those goes towards whatever it is the school wants.
guitar class got cut out last year.
:( what a shame :(

We live in Texas what do you expect? All you hear about in school is football this, football that, some teachers pass the players even though they are sometimes dumber than a bag of doorknobs just because they will win them the game. They need to cut sports.

Yes, but it has been shown in multiple studies that sports programs rarely pay for themselves. Money earned from sports fundraisers and such also tend to go to the sports programs instead of to the school directly.
I don't see what's wrong with the private leagues outside of school. Sports just aren't education.
Oh god. My school district is so shitty that we barely have enough money to keep the mandatory classes going.
Here are the recent cuts:
-German
-Zoology
-Every sport
-Specific music classes
There's more but I can't remember. My town is really going to shit though. Everybody is into drugs and nobody likes to think anymore. A lot of drugs go through my town as it's part of a route from Chicago to the other major suburbs. I don't even know what to do anymore.
God you guys are all nerds that all you care about is the funding for sports programs. I hate to break to you but you can learn those subjects on your own
Well we were dumb enough to think it was gonna happen.
Any class that doesn't have 15 people minimum signed up for it gets cut.
We wouldn't have to do this, except they built a new middle school (which I hear can't even hold all the students, gg dumbfucks) and we recently spent $3 million on a new track.
Our track team is shit.

My school cut out CNC robotics this year. Too bad I said I'll wait another year until I take it.
I'm schizophrenic
and so am I.
That sucks. As some people have said, schools always seem to have money for the sports programs, but all the real classes (elective wise) seem to get cut more than an emo kid. What's worse is that the sports programs never seem to earn money for the school anyways since any money earned goes back to buying new equiptment that they don't need and other programs are forced to reuse stuff (like band uniforms) for years. I'm just glad that my school's band is the best in the state (We also got 3rd at the Bands of America in St. George Utah ^_^), so the school is less likely to cut our budget anymore.

Psh, hell yeah, my high school was the same way. And they wonder why we have no school spirit?
