Okay, now that is out of the way. I just watched the movie for the first time and the ending is having my scratching my head. Why did the black kid shoot Danny at the end of the movie? Is it just because he told them to stop messing with that kid earlier in the movie? Or, did I miss something?

If so then that is the stupidest shit I have ever heard. Who kills someone and goes to prison for life over that shit?

I wasn't picking on you, I just thought it strange that a thread with an identical title had been posted just a few days before, asking the same thing.

To answer your question, btw - it IS stupid. That's the point of it. The morale of the whole thing is the stupidity and futility of gang culture and racial prejudice. Danny has learned this by that point in the movie, the other kid hasn't. That's pretty much all there is to it.

Err, I forgot to say why it's stupid - and that's purely because these guys on opposing sides will fight and kill each other over incidents that most people would just brush off.

I've watched and analyzed the movie several times.

-The "black kid" is influenced by some local thugs at the basketball courts.

-Later that night they drive by the house and one of the thugs fires a non-existant pistol to basically say "your dead"

-After Edwards character walks Danny to school, the music changes and he looks distressed, closer attention to the movie reveals that he sees the black car driving away from the school, and gets a bad feeling.

Exactly, some people just have trouble with that part of the movie because the black kid was completely unjustified in what he did. It's completely senseless violence/murder, but shit like that does happen irl.
