Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra Sf2 Jul. 26th, 2011 @ 07:24 AM Reply

The Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra is one of the best free orchestral sample libraries available, but it is shipped in SFZ/wav format. The free SFZ plugin from cakewalk does not let you adjust attack/release and finding an alternative is frustrating, at best.

Soundfonts, on the other hand, have widespread support, a bajillion different plugins for playing them and in general are my preferred format. So, I converted the entirety of SSO to .sf2 format. I figure this might be useful to anyone else who likes soundfonts, so I have zipped them up for you. Each instrument is an individual SF2 file, since I find large soundfont banks rather unwieldy.

I didn't know this existed.
The only reason I was tipped over the edge into buying Live 9 was for the orchestra!

A-at l-least we still h-ave the glue compressor... d-dorks.

But really. Does the suggested player work in other programs than Cakewalk?
How does one load/use soundfonts?

I was looking at this, but brief research shows that Ableton's Sampler Instrument loads soundfonts. c:

Oh my god, I missed this.
Well, my good sir.
You have created the first free Reactable compatible orchestra.

I might just impress some peeps at ATTW7. c:

You have my biggest thanks for this compile, and if you would like any personalized sample libraries or unique OA instruments, don't hesitate to PM me, I owe you for this.

Sincerest apologies, Black, but your soundfont won't load into either of my soundfont players.
One is SFZ. The patches simply won't load. The program doesn't respond to choosing them, just reverts to default. It does, however, successfully load other .sf2

The other is Ableton's Sampler, which also successfully loads other .sf2

Any help? I'm really excited about this working.

That makes no sense. They are standard soundfont files and should load in anything that supports soundfont files. Please try to first load Brass - Bass Trombone Solo.sf2 to ensure it doesn't work, then try loading this. If that doesn't work I am at a total loss as to what's going on. You would need to find a decent SF2 editor to investigate the problem.

That one does work.
What does that mean the problem is?

It means the converter I used is a dickface. All I did was use the SF2 splitter to "split" the instrument out of... itself, betting that if there was a formatting issue, the SF2 splitter would fix it. Apparently I was right, but it also means I haven't a goddamn clue what the actual issue is.

I will go split the instruments and then re-upload the zip file.

Problem is still there. Won't load in sfz, and this is my Sampler's analysis of the files:

I pointed out my observations. The audio when pressing a key is random buzzes and clicks.

Ok, so, I fix one of the soundfonts, you say "ok yeah now it works", so I then do that exact same operation on the rest of the soundfonts, and it doesn't work? I'm out of ideas then. Good luck trying to figure out what's wrong. You can always just download the original SFZ pack, which has the .wavs in folders and compile the samples yourself.
