Only Sexist When Men Do It

So a few days ago TheAmazingAtheist uploaded an interesting video about how on the show, The Talk, which is basically a show of women talking about their lives and society and whatnot, that they were making fun of the case in Orange County, CA where a woman drugged her estranged husband and cut off his penis, and then placed it in the disposal and turned it on.

Sharon Osbourne, the wife of Ozzy Osbourne, made fun of the situation that the guy "kinda deserve it" and they all broke out laughing despite the fact she wasn't very clear of the circumstances in the case, but TheAmazingAtheist makes an interesting point about it. The point is that if it were reversed, where a man would cut off a lady's breasts off, even if it were under the same circumstances as the Orange County case, it would be treated much worse and the suspect would be treated as total scum.

You see many comments on his video like this:

" If a man gets raped he is not taken seriously and told he wanted it.

No. Given the exact same circumstances where the only change is that a man mutilated a woman's genitals, society would react identically. Why? Because in order for the scenarios to be identical, there would have to be thousands of years of culturally endorsed suppression of men at the hands of women, an extensive history of women raping men in numbers that DOMINATE the reverse, and the concept of a man mutilating a woman's genitals would have to be exactly as relatively novel to society as we find the notion of a woman mutilating a man's genitals.

So. Do you see why it is not an affront to men that a few women somewhere could find a way to poke fun at the story? And why it IS an affront to women if men were to laugh at a similar (but not identically comparable) situation with the roles reversed?

If you are a man in this country, and because of some crazy circumstance it so happens that you are found in the morning with your penis chopped off because your partner has lost her temper, then, quite simply, you will be laughed at.

Comedians will make jokes about you and some of the press will say that you probably deserved it.

If you are a man, then you are pretty much worthless.

Most people wouldn't laugh at an animal that had such an experience. However, so low are you considered to be in the scheme of things, so worthless and hated, that severely mutilating you is a joke.

It doesn't matter how 'good' you've been throughout your life. It doesn't matter if you're the type of man who has always done his best and tried to do the right thing.

None of that matters.

If you're a man, then, quite simply, you are so low that people will laugh when your penis is cut off.

AND THIS FACT ALONE SHOULD TELL YOU SOMETHING RATHER PROFOUND!!

And if it doesn't, then, quite simply, you must be stupid.

This doesn't represent all of feminism. There are just as many double standards favoring men as there are favoring women; this happens to be one of the one's favoring women. Society has expectations for everyone, roles that everyone is expected to fall into lest they experience social backlash.

I don't believe that having equal amount of double standards for each gender makes the world equal. That would oversimplifying something that shouldn't be. It's just that there is more than one kind of inequality and they're all just as wrong, but they're not synonymous and they're don't cancel out like wavelengths do.
